Texas Roadhouse apologizes for asking breastfeeding mother to cover up

A Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Louisville, Ky., has apologized to a mother who was asked by a manager to cover up while she was breastfeeding her seven-week-old daughter.

Sadie Durbin began nursing her infant daughter while she was dining at the American chain restaurant with her family, she wrote in a now-viral Facebook post, when a manager came over and told her to cover up.

“David Mitchell, a manager at the Texas Roadhouse on Shelbyville Road, brought me a napkin and tried lying it over my 7 week old nursing infant's face as he explained that he had another patron complain and that he really needed me to cover up,” Durbin wrote.

“I politely explained to him it is against the law for him to ask me to cover up and that I was well within my rights to feed my baby,” she continued.

Many years ago I was eating in "everybody's Pizza" right near the Emory Campus. A woman flopped her spawn on the table and proceeded to change a #2 diaper right then and there. All the while smirking at everyone who was appalled by her repulsive act. I got up and walked out after telling the server I had assumed I was in a restaurant not an outhouse. Oddly enough only a few of us left.

When I was in graduate school the same thing happened at one of the school cafeterias. I complained to the management there (a student) and was told she was a faculty wife and they couldn't do anything about it. Some people not only have no class, they actually register as negative on that scale

It’s about wanting to use Motherhood as a front for Feminist-style behavior.

“I can bare my breasts for reasons I declare okay. You, however, are not allowed to sexualize my breasts. Unless. I. Give. You. Permission.”

Simple. Disgustingly simple.

“If a woman wants to have her entire breast exposed, it is her right I guess.”

But not on private property of someone else that objects to the practice. The restaurant manager did the right thing. Then word got out and the national chain decided they didn’t want to offend the vocal crazies.

So the national chain said let it all hang out.

At least the restaurant manager didn’t threaten to have the government drop a nuclear bomb on the offender.

She is not within her rights. With your logic anybody has a right to take a dump in the isle of the restaurant. It’s a normal bodily function is it not?

Moronic, a civil society needs civility to function, its NOT all about YOU.

I don’t want to see her milking her kid while I have paid to dine in a restaurant. I would be embarrassed to see this in front of my family and I am a woman. Do the right considerate thing and cover up or bond with your baby at home.

You said...”I nursed around the clock ‘nonstop’... There was no schedule.”...

Each to his own I guess but you must have been sore nonstop.....my house could have never functioned with out schedules and that includes feedings....for all.

.....” It isn’t considered indecent exposure if it is for the purpose of feeding a baby or expressing breast milk”.....

Gosh....do woman today need instruction booklets for everything? Common sense and manners appears to escape them rather easily.

I worked in retail and it was stunning to see mothers change kids diapers ‘on the floor’ of the store....I had no problem telling them there is a dressing room and bathrooms available for that...

My wife breastfed our children but she never ran into a hassle. And we went to restaurants and public places often. Of course she was discreet. Sometimes even I didn't notice she was feeding our baby and that didn't always go over so well with her!

I remember she used that pump thing and would put her milk in the freezer for me to use when I wanted to feed the baby. Once I put some of that milk into my coffee. That didn't go over so well with her either.

What a pig of a mother. It is POLITE to use a small blanket for some coverage of baby and breast or to be really considerate to excuse yourself and find a small secluded spot for the event. I say it again - this mother is a PIG! I am also a mother.

I agree she has the right to breastfeed her infant, but she should also understand the need to be discrete discreet...

The mother in question has two discrete mammaries (not, e.g., an udder), but should exercise a little bit more discretion - i.e., be discreet.

Regards,

Taking a dump is a natural function too.
Although, I would rather not watch.

It was difficult. They tell us every two hours. It would take mine two hours to finish one feeding. As newborns, that is. That was a long time ago, though. Glad those days are over!

Just waiting for the time when I can expose my johnson in a restaurant and the restaurant has to apologize and beg for MY forgiveness when they ask me to cover up.

Every baby is different; every family is different. Mine ate when they were hungry. It was never a problem. I also nursed every 2 hours for 6 months with one of mine.

I don’t like schedules neither did my kids. I can’t imagine nursing to a schedule; you can’t imagine getting through without one. It takes all kinds of people to make a world.

Vote with your feet and dollars, FRiends. Every public service establishment will be expected to "choose". Either cater to the decent folks who believe humans are distinct from animals and use decorum as evidence to that fact, or cater to the humans who want nothing more than to behave like animals and force others to observe them in their degradation. We all choose ... one way or another ... and the Lord will hold us to our choices later on.
