ENGLISH MUCH?
“Youd think that the most strict form of a commandment to not light a fire in your dwelling on the Sabbath would mean that you could not even have a fire in your dwelling on the Sabbath. “
No, the plain language is NOT TO LIGHT IT. Once it’s lit and not attend to by man its fine.
Your comment shows your ignorance about and bias against Jews. Shabbos is to LIVE BY, not die. We have rules explaining how to stay warm and have light and heat and hot food on Shabbos, but in a manner to not desecrate the Sabbath.
By your whiiney comments you would prefer NO SABBATH OBSERVANCE, thus you would likely prefer no jews.
Stick to Chinese Physics.
So whose eruv do you hold by, Rabbi?
(save you the time - eruv has been around in Jewish text for at least 2600 years).
.
The issue is not that they are traveling; its that they are causing others to break the Sabbath by using a paid conveyance.
Rabbis don’t care about Torah; they magnify their own false “oral law.”
Biggest hypocrites on earth.
.
The Sabbath was ordained and sanctified by Yehova millennia before a Jew even existed.
Its not about “Jews,” It is about love and respect for Yehova.
.
.
You’re being way too sensible!
Yes, but in the scenario described here, there were several passengers - whose luggage may very well have been distributed amongst many different "containers."
I agree that it would be less of a hassle if all of the "problem passengers" (Ultra-Orthodox) who would later complain and demand to deplane happened to have all of their luggage stored in the same "container." But if their baggage were "scattered" randomly, it might necessitate removing all of those "containers."
Regards,
I’m pretty sure God isn’t going to hold a delayed flight against them.
Yes, the Sabbath was sanctified before the Jews were known as a people, but the Jewish rules interpreting how to honor the Sabbath were not.
“Your comment shows your ignorance about and bias against Jews. “
Far from it. I am biased against silliness of rules conveniently streched and restricted, depending on a need or desire and NOT for G-d but merely for different Rabbis interpretations of how to apply ancient rules in ancient circumstances to todays circumstances. If the rules were absolute from and about honoring G-d, then so many Rabbis would not have absolute different interpretations.
Rabbi Akiva in the 1st century, after first backing and then renoucning Simon bar Kokhba with his claim of Messiahship lectured against humans taking absolute notions of things when only G-d possesses absoulte understanding. That temperment has helped lead Rabbis to disagree, respectfully, unlike Kokhba who was killing those who refused to fight with him.
“Rabbi Akiva in the 1st century,”
ARE YOU JEWISH?
You do realize you demanded absolutism in one paragraph and then denounced it in the nest.
If you ‘re not Jewish AND kosher / Shomer Shabbos, please go butt your nose into some muslim BS and stay out of ours.
REALLY... so tell us who were given the Ten Commandments that sanctified the Sabbath?
/hint, they were JEWS....
“You do realize you demanded absolutism in one paragraph and then denounced it in the nest.”
Where?
If all you have is personal ad hominem attacks and can’t discuss comments on their merits YOU “butt out”.
So you’re not Jewish.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

I frequently fly a day early when I need to be somewhere. If flying on the Sabbath due to is a major problem for an individual, that's a logical solution. However some articles on this incident indicate that the airline agreed to allow passengers who wished to deplane before takeoff, but the pilot, presumably not wishing to lose his takeoff slot, didn't return to the gate as instructed and took off. If that's the case, the airline has a problem. Abusing the crew, not acceptable under any circumstance.
The concept of the eruv is millennia old, dates at least to the Babylonian exile. Over the centuries rules have been reinterpreted as larger urban areas developed and construction methods changed.
Yeah, in a world gone mad out biggest problem is Jews Halakhically observing the weekly anniversary of the completion of creation.[/sarcasm]
