I always thought that the owners suffered from what I called the ‘Zigferd & Roy’ snydrome

Well as long as nobody was SERIOUSLY injured give the dog a pass. It couldn’t possibly be an aggressive breed. After all everyone knows pit bulls are really angels in disguise and it’s only their owners that make them appear to be vicious and unpredictable.

Shoot the pit bull owners they make the dog mean.

When my elderly mom was still independent and living in her own house, she owned two pit bull terriers.

She loved those dogs like her own babies from the time they were pups, but let me tell you. Those dogs were absolutely vicious, and would likely have killed anyone they came in contact with, other than my mom.

Visiting her was a nerve wracking experience. The entire time we were there, her dogs were trying to break through the doors and windows.

It's not the owners. It's the genes.

The dog owner needs to pay all the medical expenses. If they cannot pay, put them in jail. Make them owe the rest of their lives if they cannot pay.

There is no specific breed of ‘pit bull’ recognized in the USA. All dogs reflect their owners regardless of breed. Springer Spaniels are the number one biters due most likely to overbreeding for show characteristics.

Wow. Scary re your mom's dogs.

I walk quite a lot of pbs at the shelter I volunteer at. I only have to deal with the ones that have passed the screening as easy to handle. Haven't had any problems so far...knock on wood. And have met some super sweet pbs. One a few months ago had just had one of her front legs removed by the vets at the shelter. I really liked her a lot. I got her an extra blankie so she would be more comfortable. She was super nice and was submissive to me even though we had just met.

There was a dog back in one of the sections this past Sunday that was truly scary. He was marked as a "dangerous dog" so I didn't have to deal with him...not that I would have anyway from the extrene behaviour he was displaying. He didn't need the sign to alert me. There is no doubt in my mind that if he could have gotten to me, he would have torn me to shreds. Not sure if pb or part or none...didn't hang near his cage too long to look at his paperwork as I didn't want to stir him up any more than he already was. I did shove a few dog treats into his cage to see if that would appease him some. Like water off a duck's back.

From: https://www.nationalpitbullvictimawareness.org/media-release-2018/

“One pit bull in 40 injures or kills a person or another animal, compared to 1 in 50,000 of all other dog breeds combined.

In the first 6 months of 2018, pit bulls killed more people than Dobermans killed in 60 years.

Between January 1 – October 15, 2018, pit bulls killed 24 out of 29 people killed by dogs.

Every year, pit bulls are responsible for:
90% of serious dog injuries to people
Deaths of up to 85% of adults and children killed by dogs
94% of all dogs killed by dogs
92% of dog maulings by other dogs
92% of all cats killed by dogs
85% of the deaths of farm animals killed by dogs

Yet pit bulls are only 6.5% of the dog population in the United States and Canada.
THE NUMBERS ARE NOT DECREASING

So far in 2018, someone has been killed by a pit bull on average every 13 days. Since we formed 4 years ago, the media in the United States and Canada has reported an average of 1,000 attacks per year.

But most municipalities do not track attacks by breed, and according to a study of insurance claims, an estimated 96% of attacks are not reported by the media at all. “

How many other breeds will go out and attack multiple people? Funny how it is true that not all pit bulls are bad but the majority of the bad dogs are pit bulls...if you can’t pull your head out, at least don’t shove it up further....

I saw a Labradoodle attack a jogger. I think it was trying to be playful but the runner wasn’t into it.

...described as a brown and white pit bull mix...

Again, the breed of peace strikes.

I didn’t think that I’d get to see a thread like this again. Regardless of what their apologists say, pit bulls are a problem. Not all of them but the aggressive ones are a serious problem. The aggressive ones are like mobile, loaded firearms that can pull their own trigger. If a child or an elderly person is targeted, serious injuries are the likely outcome.
