Officials with the Oklahoma City Fire Department said there were 28 children and three teachers on the playground at the time of the attack.
In all, 12 students were taken to a hospital for treatment – nine for superficial bites and others for scrapes and bruises as children tried to run away from the dog.
"The dog came on and started to attack some of the kids, and then of course the kids began to scream and panic, which excited the dog and scared the dog even more, so his natural instinct was to keep biting and going after the kids," Fire Capt. David Macy told KFOR.
The dog got into the school building, officials said, but a special education teacher managed to subdue it.
Hughes said he did not feel like a hero despite being praised as one.
"I had it pinned, and my arms locked around his head so he couldn't move," Hughes said. "Everybody did what they're supposed to do."
A police officer arrived after the dog, described as a brown and white pit bull mix, was tackled by Hughes

Even though nobody was seriously injured, let’s make this a mad pitbull attack and spread it nationwide: Check.
And the pitty haters all over America, even on this normally rational site, all start calling for an extirpation.

The article clearly states that the dog was a pitbull. The only one who “made this a pitbull attack,” as you put it, was the dog itself...BECAUSE IT’S A DAMNED PITBULL.
None of the three teachers on the playground at the time considered the safety of those children entrusted to their care enough to warrant them pulling out their CCW and shooting the animal?

As an aside, I’m listening to the 911 call (lengthy).
Sometimes it’s kind of disturbing how the dispatchers behave on the calls. I mean, really, this person could be running around getting attacked, and the D is like “maam, answer me, just tell me what color he is! What color? What color?”
Hid under desks, threw erasers at the beast, called 911, and cops waited outside until things cooled down? Does the "healing process" start right away? Have grief counselors arrived yet? Have Democrats started braying about "sensible canine control"?
It’s rational to hate pit bulls...bred to be able to attack consciously, jaws like a vise...usually( notice “ usually” ) owned by irresponsible owners who show off their masculinity by owning a pit.
But let’s just ignore the overwhelming number of stories reporting pit attavks. Funny I RARELY hear other such dog stories...I’m sure there are some.
I am aware of this latest large-scale attack.
I am waiting to hear from the media, that since this dog bit twelve (12) children within 5 minutes on a public school playground, and no owner has come forward to claim this dog or provide proof of rabies vaccination, that the animal has been euthanized to check for rabies, so that the attacked children do not need to go through very expensive and painful rabies shots - especially since this is classic behavior of a rabid animal.
Rabies shots are expensive but they aren’t painful at all now. Less painful than a mosquito bite.
If a child were distracted there’s a good chance that he wouldn’t know he’d had a shot.
They made me feel nauseous for a few days but vanilla shakes took care of that. :-)
I had to get the rabies shots series about a year ago.
