Ah, back when tv actually had comedy. True laughable comedy.
One of the greatest sitcom episodes ever.
“...Oh the humanity!”
Originally aired on October 30, 1978, forty years ago.
It seems like yesterday.

I saw this when it was first on TV.
Funniest thing I had ever seen. We were literally rolling on the floor laughing.
One of the few things rarely mentioned is the huge pause when Less Nessman started the broadcast and was reading the letters on the banner trailing the airplane.
He said “it spells W...K...R....[long pause]....P” with the crew practically falling over waiting for that last ‘P’ to come out.
I always thought that was a subtle but hilarious part.
I watch this episode every Thanksgiving.
I watched that episode on Monday. Part of my Thanksgiving tradition. I surprised myself by laughing hysterically, even though I knew what was coming and can recite most of the dialogue, too.
And not to let the “Bailey versus Jennifer” debate get in the way of peoples’ fun, lol.
IIRC, one year they did the drop with live turkeys and the next year (or a parody skit on some other program) did it with frozen turkeys.
Both were hilarious.
Oh no you didn’t.
Classic episode from a great sitcom.
“As god is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly”.
Show had a lot of subtleties and small details that contributed to the humor. In this one episode Jennifer (Loni Anderson) volunteers to get a shaken Mr. Carlson a cup of coffee. But just the one time, because as a receptionist Jennifer was the highest paid staff member at the station, and she didn’t cater to others.
“as God as my witness I thought turkeys could fly”
One of the greatest lines ever delivered on television IMO.
The funniest ever!
I really don’t know how to describe it. It was like the turkeys mounted a counter-attack. It was almost as if they were... organized!
LOL
What bothers me is that apparently if you watch the episodes now (via DVD or on a nostalgia channel), chances are that the small bits of popular rock songs of the time that played on the original cuts of the episodes are now covered up by musical noise as copyright lawyers apparently demanded this. I am a bit sensitive about this as it is nice to watch TV shows and movies done in their originally produced formats and not chopped up for timing and ad space issues or even censored (for PC or the aforementioned reasons).
Why don’t they make shows this good anymore???
Watch this many Thanksgivings. Very funny!
Based on a true story (happened at a station in Denver in the 1960’s!)
The “Arthur Carlson” station manager who was responsible later ended up in Pittsburgh. I have a friend who worked for him.
Classic... thanks for sharing link...
Yay! One of my faves!
