The two times I was knocked unconscious in what are today called the knockout game, I never saw it coming. I just woke up with my face planted on the ground. I carry with a chambered round, but even with good situational awareness it’s possible you may never even get a chance to draw, let alone chamber a round.

I was in school in Hillsboro Co about that time, but moved back to MI before they got the integrations finished.
When the bussing started the Principal was warned they were coming, and he had all toughest guys in the school waiting with ball bats.
He told the bus driver that anyone that got off that bus would never get back on, and he meant it!
Nobody got off. BTW...that was Dowdell Jr High, Tampa, Fla.
