Murphy Brown fans. We are NOT CANCELED!!!!! Several entertainment sites read a mid season schedule put out by CBS that did not have our show on it and the assumption was made that we were not renewed. Our order, at our request was 13 eps. We look forward to a second season.
Show is in the same boat as “The Conners”.
I didn’t even know this show was back on...
One trite line after another.
I could see the network retaining the show as a late summer/early fall offering through 2020.
It could be used as propaganda in the run up to the November election.
Late night talk show hosts have found success in bashing Trump, CBS was hoping to tap into that audience for a prime time show. Big issue is the audience at midnight is very limited, and you don’t need big numbers to be a success. In prime time you’re expected to pull in a larger audience to justify the rate the networks charge for ads. If the show doesn’t bring in ad money, the networks look for another show that will.
I recall reading somewhere that when nostalgia channels began showing the original Murphy Brown, it suffered from poor ratings as well, compared to other classic and vintage shows. People don’t seem to be keen on Murphy and her abrasive tone accompanied with the liberal Dem talking points of even that time.
LOL!
Why didnt they just call both fans?
Both of them...
I’ve never watched that show. It just looks stupid. I don’t really watch sitcoms anymore since Seinfeld went off the air.
Mostly I watch Netflix or Showtime content with the exception of This is Us and also sometimes Survivor which my wife still enjoys.
And somewhere, Tim Allen is smiling and cashing those big paychecks. Cause you know, people don’t want to watch conservatives on TV, especially sitcoms.
I was a big fan of Murphy Brown at the time but it doesnt hold up well. The bulk of the humor is anti-Reaganism snark which makes Murphy look stupid given all the 80s nostalgia. The stories are typical leftist style of the time but are now hypocritical - free speech, fighting government oppression all things leftists (and even Murphy herself now, from what Ive heard because I could only stomach about 5 minutes of the new series) now happily support. Its all vacuous.
Surprisingly MASH, even with its leftist bends, seems to stay pertinent by staying on the bigger goals that are still pertinent (war is hell)
Both of you?
But if a show starts out of the gate that way...
Wait a second! You mean to say that there are actually FANS for this retread of a mishmash of liberal garbage? Candace Bergen who was never particularly attractive is a singularly unattractive old bat. But not having watched the current reanimation I can’t say anything about the plot or the dialog. I managed to get half way through one of the originals before turning off the TV, and I can only remember thinking then what dreck.
That was probably partly due to the topical nature of the show. Old viewers might have enjoyed re-watching it, but younger viewers would not have understood many of the references (political figures, other then-living newspeople, etc).
They run out of plots they can do within the show's premise and characters.
I’ve often thought that Candice Bergen’s real ‘talent’ is riding the coat tails of her very, very talented and famous father.
“The Kids Are Alright” is a good show with high ratings.
The moment they went all in to denounce Trump, the show was over before it began.
