Surely, Avis has cameras. Easy enough to see who drove in out and who drove it back. Where was she or her boyfriend?

Talk to any long term LEO and they well have a lot of stories.

That to the average citizen don’t sound true.

Most people are not exposed to the criminal side of things.

My theory:

There was a dispute between the owner of the car and a spouse/boyfriend who both have keys. Maybe both names are on the title?

Was there a repossession action underway when the car was "stolen?"

A local suburban police chief in my area tells me that "borrowed bikes" are a big problem at bus stops and the train station in his town.

Every few months the department of public works would go around picking up a bunch of bicycles that had been abandoned in these public places and hadn't been moved for months. They were stolen from their owners by knuckleheads who only used them for one ride -- usually to the train station or bus stop. It was almost impossible to track the owners down because the police were rarely notified in the first place, and the bikes typically weren't expensive enough for the owners to give a sh!t after they had been stolen.

Possible, but not very likely from my chair.

With 1300 digital cameras covering all areas of the airport - including parking areas and, likely, recording license plates of all vehicles entering/exiting - it would take a pretty stupid person to source a vehicle for a crime from DIA, including insurance fraud.

Just as in other crimes, imho it’s more likely an ex is involved and he just wanted to really mess with her head.

In the 70s, my uncle’s Mercedes was stolen in Pittsburgh, PA while he was there on business. It turned up, totally stripped on cinder blocks, in a parking garage, a month later in Cleveland, OH.

I have a friend whose wheels were stolen from her car and pawned. Recovered by police within 12 hours but impounded as evidence for 6 months.

Years ago, a coworker was going for his pilot license. I glanced through some of his aviation mags, and one article was about equipment thieves that would steal the electronic equipment out of a plane at one airport, go to another, and then steal the same equipment out of another, and put the first stolen “merchandise” into the second plane.

The 2nd serialized equipment being sold at that point, with hopefully, the 2nd victim not realizing and reporting the theft.

My wife and I are amazed at how creative some high end thieves can be.

Now that I remember it, it was a team. A plane would be practicing touch & go's while dropping off a confederate or two to do the thefts.

They then take off for another tiny airport to continue the switcheroos.

It was stolen and then replaced with an exact replica.

The cost of airport parking exceeded the value of an old steamer from the hood.

If you are gone more than a few days, a beater or steamer would be cheaper.

Amazing how the smart criminal minds work:

“Now that I remember it, it was a team. A plane would be practicing touch & go’s while dropping off a confederate or two to do the thefts.”

“They then take off for another tiny airport to continue the switcheroos.”
