Did the World's Oldest Ever Person Actually Steal Her Mother's Identity?
MSN/ Inside Edition ^ | Janaury 1, 2019

The French woman documented as the world's oldest person at 122 may be a fraud, according to Russian researchers.

A 2018 study suggests that the woman known as Jeanne Calment was actually Jeanne's daughter, Yvonne, who allegedly assumed her mother's identity after her death in 1934 in order to not have to pay the inheritance tax.

When "Jeanne" died in 1997 at the supposed age of 122 and 164 days, she was actually thought to have been just 99, the researchers claim.

Gerontologist Valery Novoselov, who initially called for the investigation into Jeanne's age, said he first became suspicious because Jeanne didn't fit typical data trends.

I remember hearing about her from around 1980's . 122 seemed impossible , then again I recalled those Russians in the Dannon yogurt TV ads

That was a great advertising campaign!

Here you go for a trip down memory lane...

Dannon "Soviet Georgia" commercial - 1977

Apparently this was the first American commercial ever actually filmed in the Soviet Union.

I worked for a year as a claims rep for social security. They are pretty good at establishing age. I once had a claimant, a woman who was 111. Her Daughter was taking care of her.

Also had a Black woman who was in her early 80s. She was taking care of her Daughter who was only 60. The younger one had Alzheimer’s. The old one was sharp as a tack.

Gerontologist Valery Novoselov, ... said he first became suspicious because Jeanne didn't fit typical data trends.

His refutation is based solely on that? That sounds about as scientific as GlobalClimateWarmingChange.

I’d think this could be proven or disproven via analysis of DNA from living relatives, if there are any.

I would say look at her dental records, but many people born back then didn’t have a regular dentist if any.

I remember her story very well. My daughter was whining about history. I explained that this lady was born 10 years after Abe Lincoln died. History is alive.

As I recall she had...what's it called...a viatical(?) agreement with a gentleman. People would 'buy' an apartment with the understanding that it would become theirs upon her death. She outlived him.

I remember those yogurt commercials. I believe it was found that some of the men faked their age to prevent being drafted into the Army.
I also rememb er the aged in a place called Vilcabamba who were supposed to live extra long lives.

I recall over 70 years ago my uncle from Kentucky telling me that sons had assumed the fathers identity to keep the father's Rail Road pension coming to the family.

He himself assumed his older brothers identity to enlist in WW2, when his older brother got drafted.- Tom.
