‘Ex-Gay’ Men Fight Back Against View That Homosexuality Can’t Be Changed
New York Times ^ | By ERIK ECKHOLM

LOS ANGELES — For most of his life, Blake Smith said, “every inch of my body craved male sexual contact.”

Mr. Smith, 58, who says he believes homosexual behavior is wrong on religious grounds, tried to tough it out. He spent 17 years in a doomed marriage while battling his urges all day, he said, and dreaming about them all night.

But in recent years, as he probed his childhood in counseling and at men’s weekend retreats with names like People Can Change and Journey Into Manhood, “my homosexual feelings have nearly vanished,” Mr. Smith said in an interview at the house in Bakersfield, Calif., he shares with his second wife, who married him eight years ago knowing his history. “In my 50s, for the first time, I can look at a woman and say ‘she’s really hot.’ ”

Mr. Smith is one of thousands of men across the country, often known as “ex-gay,” who believe they have changed their most basic sexual desires through some combination of therapy and prayer — something most scientists say has never been proved possible and is likely an illusion.

Ex-gay men are often closeted, fearing ridicule from gay advocates who accuse them of self-deception and, at the same time, fearing rejection by their church communities as tainted oddities. Here in California, their sense of siege grew more intense in September when Gov. Jerry Brownsigned a law banning use of widely discredited sexual “conversion therapies” for minors — an assault on their own validity, some ex-gay men feel.

Signing the measure, Governor Brown repeated the view of the psychiatric establishment and medical groups, saying, “This bill bans nonscientific ‘therapies’ that have driven young people to depression and suicide,” adding that the practices “will now be relegated to the dustbin of quackery.”

“something most scientists say”

Again with the “most scientists say”.

NYT simply makes things up.

I don’t think your post was a rant.

I think it was insightful and well measured.

Most gay males are basically from disfunctional and even brutal homes; so they are emotionally children seeking the protection of a positive father figure.

When they grew mature enough to have sexual feelings, those feelings are directed at superior males.

Since that behavior is modified by external circumstances, it can be modified again, leaving them free to seek mature relationships with women.

The Gays are not dominating public discourse. Cultural Marxists are dominating public discourse. These people would gladly feed Gays, Blacks, women, and illegal immigrants through a meat grinder, if that would help advance the cause of Socialism.

But they know that the way to get young people to take a jaded and cynical attitude towards America, Capitalism, Judeo-Christian values, and the West as a whole, is to scream about racism, sexism, and homophobia.

Muslim immigrants are beating the crap out of Gays in Europe, and the Gay rights leaders could care less. Lesbians are angry at the Transgender crowd, because they trivialize what it means to be a woman, and the Feminist leaders could care less.

As long as more and more White people continue to lose their incentive to stand up for Western values, that’s all that matters to these people.

You are mistaken to think that Gay people started the Gay rights movement to serve their own interests. Gays were used as pawns in order to accomplish the Cultural Marxists true goal.....promoting bisexuality to future generations of children.

I thought the same thing too, so I read the whole long article. Didn’t see any ulterior motives, pretty straight article.

So, pigs do fly!

Often buried is the fact that many homosexuals are not just attracted to their own sex but are simply wallowing in sexuality of any kind. Researcher Judith Reisman has shown that by researching what homosexuals themselves say they do. There is a huge lexicon of slang words among homosexuals for attracting minors, for instance. Why would they need to have that? Drugs and/or drinking play a large role; in my opinion because homosexuals are trying to mask their own guilt. That's also why they want to force everyone to treat homosexuality as normal behavior.

They don't understand that no matter how much they drink or do drugs and even if every single person celebrated their lifestyle the guilt would still be there.

No bias here. Notice how the actual experience of Mr. Smith is not good enough for the NYT. Pay attention how they trot out vague “most scientists” to challenge what Mr. Smith knows is true. Now let’s count the weasel words and phrases.

“Often known as “ex-gay”..”
“Who believe”
“Most scientists”
“Never proved”
“Most likely an illusion.”
Most basic sexual desires”

All of these are deliberate attempts by the writer to cast doubt on what Mr. Smith has personally experienced. Not just claimed to have-like being beamed aboard a UFO- but verified. As in he is now attracted to women. This is not journalism it is an opinion piece that sneers at the whole notion that sexual desire can change and even be suppressed.

It is a behavior. But homosexuals cannot be a protected class on the basis of behavior.

It his to be as genetic as the racial or sexual assignment of a person. And they have been looking hard to find that genetic tag, but have not found one.

Because there isn’t one. And that is devastating to them.

And they have been looking hard to find that genetic tag, but have not found one.

It would be interesting if they did. If a genetic marker were to be found, the docs could screen for it. Some parents, probably many parents, would consider homosexuality a defect, or at least a serious psychiatric disorder that their child would have to carry for life. Some of these parents, possibly many of them, would opt for abortion, and then try again for a normal kid. What would the left do? Suddenly discover, for the first time, a reason to limit the abortion license? Which would prevail: a woman's right to choose, or the sanctity of homosexuality?

The fundamental point is that behavior is malleable, while the genetic make up of the melanin content of your skin, shape of your face, the construction of your genitalia, or the color of your eyes...is not.

They want the behavior of homosexuality to be non-malleable, because it then becomes something you cannot control.

Thank you, I feel ranty about this issue when I consider it because ... well we all know ... the left ruins ... not necessarily 'so many lives' (they do) ... but so much life ... and so much OF life ... for their dopey followers.

EVERY legitimate religious practice or discipline points towards taking attention away from the illusion of self, points towards doing the opposite of reinforcing the illusion. The left just reinforces it and encourages it's lemmings to fall deeper into the hypnosis. It's evil and causes a ton of suffering, even for the dopes I wish would never enter a voting booth. So I get a ranty feeling in my stomach when I consider this evil.

Even though I know it's been around since man first crawled out of the dust.

Telling young men with same sex leanings that it’s permanent and can’t be changed is one of the cruelest, deadliest lies ever told. How many lives have been ruined because they thought they were facing a lifetime of getting boinked up the butt by thousands of different, anonymous men? Every state legislator and governor that has voted for outlawing therapy should be arrested and charged with murder. The agenda uber alles!
