A teenage passenger lost his footing while trying to get onto the balcony of his room aboard Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas and plummeted to his death, officials say.
The teen apparently did not have the key card to his room and was trying to get from a neighboring 8th floor balcony to his own when he slipped, falling to the pier below.
The cruise ship’s medical staff performed CPR on Mercer, but he had suffered “major head trauma” and died of his injuries, the medical examiner’s office said in a statement to the Sentinel.

There’s no way I would go on one of those germ infested floating petri dishes.
It’s TRIPLY sad...….. that pier has HUNDREDS of people on it at all times, and they would have seen the carnage.
I’m assuming alcohol was involved in the thought process to try to climb onto his balcony rather than finding a crew member to get a new card.
When you fall from eight levels up and hit a pier or a deck, there is a splash.
It may not be water, but there is a splash.
Every year during Spring Break, here in Florida, we have college students fall to their death or severe injury doing what he did at hotels. I have seen them do stupid things, like jump from a third story balcony into the pool......................

Not just that, but you are trapped with people who go on cruises.
Wow, I had no idea cruise ships went to Haiti.
Very sad. Somehow I don’t see how it’s joke worthy.
In this case more like splat.

They have a “sanitized” port area away from the squalor, similar to cruise lines that have obtained their own private islands to dock at, where they can control the environment.
