If it happens, LA better pray it happens while Trump is POTUS. I can’t imagine a better president to ramrod the recovery.

I never understood why an actor of Walter Matthau's stature would take a crap part like that?

Maybe Walter didn’t take himself so seriously, and did it as a favor.

My parents were within 5 miles of the epicenter of the Northridge quake. Cracked their foundation, but the house could still be lived in. My dad said it was the eeriest thing, because when it stopped, it was dead quiet and pitch black, which is so weird for LA.

You will not find Matthau’s name in the credits, and in fact that character is credited to someone else by name.

Correction, IMDB has been changes to name him (previously it was credited to “Walter Matuschanskayasky”)

“Replacing miles of water pipes with ones that won’t break in an earthquake”???

We ALL have seen pics of land raised up—or with WIDE expanses after an earthquake. What kind of materials in water pipes will stay together with that kind of upheaval?

NONE-—This is another ‘feel good’ project that money is being spent on to lull the residents of Calif until there is an even bigger quake.

I lived in So Cal from 1964 to 1993. I was in the 1971 quake. Lucky to not have much damage-—especially compared to people I knew who lost every dish & item out of their cupboards & the front & back doors opened & the contents of their swimming pool came THRU the house.

My house was positioned east/est. Their house was north/south.

I rented out my house until 1995, so my renters went thru the 1994 quake. AGAIN-—MINIMAL damage. I don’t even remember filing an insurance claim. They fixed what was wrong. I don’t remember if THEY had renter’s insurance.

But I do remember the damages to the Santa Monica Freeway, which C C Myers company fixed 60 some days ahead of schedule. He got a bonus of $1 M a day & he split it ALL up among his employees who helped repair everything. IF he had gotten behind schedule-—the FINE would also have $1M a day.

Maybe he wanted to hang out with the other actors, especially Victoria Principal?

Yeah, there's probably half a dozen good reasons why he did it.
Coincidentley, I surfed over to Turner Classic Movie channel last night and they were showing another clunker, "Night of the Lepus" (1972), a sci-fi, horror movie about giant, killer rabbits. Horrible!
But what caught my attention was that the cast included Janet Leigh, Stuart Whitman, Rory Calhoun and Deforest Kelley. WTF?

25 years already? WOW.

I agree with Mew; they’d better PRAY PDJT is still President when The Big One hits.

The 6.7 magnitude earthquake destroyed freeways and buildings, cracked streets and left swaths of Los Angeles without power for a period of time.

Not even close to the "big one".

“Mark Ghilarducci, director of California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, said it could take 48 to 72 hours for outside help to arrive in Southern California. Meaning, 10 million people should expect to be largely on their own for a few days after the disaster.”

With Garcetti and his homeless corps plus all the well-meaning Chinese he’s sold most of downtown to, I feel perfectly prepared for an earthquake. We are in great hands.

Seismologists saynits not true that little earthquakes always prevent a big one, nor is it true that little earthquakes are pre-shocks of a coming big one. Then seismologists tend to say that they just don’t know.

But it’s ok, we have an app now that can predict an earthquake as long ahead as 20 seconds. So we’re good, right?
