McDonald’s ‘Bacon Hour’ Is Really Just Cancer Hour, Warn Doctors
LiveKindly ^ | 1/30/2019 | Kat Smith

Doctors from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), an organization made up of more than 12,000 medical professionals, protested against McDonald’s Bacon Hour. During the promotion, customers received free bacon with any order.

The demonstration saw to doctors holding red-and-yellow signs reading “#BreakUpWithBacon,” “Colorectal Cancer: I’m Riskin’ It,” and “Bacon Causes Butt Cancer” outside of a Washington DC McDonald’s restaurant. PCRM also handed out colorectal cancer screening kits.

“Your colon won’t be lovin’ McDonald’s Bacon Hour,” said PCRM president and founder Neal Barnard, M.D. “McDonald’s should be offering customers a free colorectal cancer screening with every free side of cancer-causing bacon.”

Bacon and other processed meats like cold cuts have been shown to raise one’s risk of various forms of cancer, including colorectal. In October 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified it as “carcinogenic to humans” after reviewing more than 800 diet-related studies. The WHO concluded that a few slices of bacon eaten daily could increase one’s colorectal cancer risk by 18 percent.

Research released by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) last June added to this, stating that even small amounts of processed meat can raise one’s risk(snip)

The WCRF recommended eating very little, if any, processed meat.

PCRM dietitian Lee Crosby also wrote to McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook to ask the chain to serve more plant-based options.

“Instead of Bacon Hour, consider a nationwide launch of your vegan McAloo Tikki burger, which was recently featured at your Chicago headquarters. Its potatoes, peas, red onions, and tomato slices, which are high in fiber and other protective nutrients, work to reduce colorectal cancer risk,” he said.

I make this with honey and demerrera sugar because I live in Spain and honey is easier to find than Maple syrup. You can adapt it to use whatever ingredients are local to you. Ghost Pepper Candied Bacon

"Research released by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) last June added to this, stating that even small amounts of processed meat can raise one’s risk(snip)"

"The WCRF recommended eating very little, if any, processed meat."

They lump bacon in with all processed meat, but all processed meat is not the same. Not even all bacon is the same. You can get good quality, relatively little processed, bacon.

And the increased risk is small, even assuming everything their studies assert. It's a fraction of a percentage of absolute risk.

"PCRM dietitian Lee Crosby also wrote to McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook to ask the chain to serve more plant-based options."

Plants cause cancer too. In fact given a choice between an entirely meat diet or an entirely vegetable diet, I'd choose meat for health reasons.

Sounds delicious. Do both.

“It isn’t as though you have to prove that you are a physician in order to have one.”

Ah, but there is a strict protocol about white lab coat lengths. The shorter ones are for med techs & med students, but the longer ones to include embroidered name & M.D. are for physicians only.

Wait a sec - didn’t Obama pose a bunch of people in long lab coats in front of the WH when he was pushing his Obamacare bill through Congress? For a fact they weren’t all doctors.

Anyway, lab coats belong in the hospital or exam room, not in front of McDonald’s. Bunch of no good busybodies!!

“The WHO concluded that a few slices of bacon eaten daily could increase one’s colorectal cancer risk by 18 percent.”

And if you eat 10-12 slices daily you are 100% likely.

These so-called “doctors” can get back to me about eating bacon after they do something about the 200,000 people these MD types kill every year through malpractice and downright incompetence.

True... bet this same group is ok with Turkey, Beef or Chicken Facon.

Case in point: Singapore is 85% Non-muslim. Nearly impossible to get bacon at any restaurant. Subway was the last to cave. Wendy’s went out of business after changing the baconator to use nasty fake turkey facon.

I gave up bacon and all pork a year ago because pigs are extremely intelligent animals and are treated with such cruelty —I don’t want to support that.

And really, I don’t miss it. Still eat turkey and beef.

When they said “The WHO,” I thought they meant the 1960’s / 1970’s rock group.

I just finished a couple of pieces of bacon as a snack. I don’t eat it every day; but, I do eat it and I’m not stopping.
