I grew up with Britney Spears and Taylor Swift but will say that I’m sometimes fascinated by early 1980’s music like Falco, Nena, The Vapors, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, Spandau Ballet, and etc.
And I loathe rap.
I am a Millennial and my two favorite songs of all time are both from 1976 ( Don't Fear The Reaper and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald )
I too have a great distaste for rap.
Amen to that. 99.99% of it is (c)rap. And I'm probably being too generous.
I do like Taylor Swift. Wife can't stand her. Thinks she can't sing, lol.
You’d love a good portion of my eclectic music collection.
What is also depressing about the present is the fact that hit songs for artists Brittany Spears, Taylor Swift, Ellie Golding, Robin Thicke, Jessie J, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Arianna Grande, Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5, Pink, Leonna Lewis, Avril Lavine, Christina Aguilera, Kesha, The Backstreet Boys, Westlife, N-Sync, Adam Lambert and Will I Am are all written by the same two men. Max Martin and Lucasz Gottwald. The musicians and bands of the past had much more creative freedom.
I am catholic in my tastes: everything from country to ambient to gothic to new wave to pop rock.
I agree: Rap is one of the few I cannot abide. I want melody, coupled with talent and skill and distinctiveness.
My avocation is professional chorister, so it is no surprise The Beach Boys (middle periid, post Surf) are my favorites.
Delerium, Depeche Mode, Tori Amos, Alan Parsons, Peter Schilling, Daniel Amos, Jean Michel Jarre, Suzy Bogguss and Taylor Swift all have a place in my collection.
I’ve never heard of a single band you mentioned.
