HICAGO — "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett gave detailed instructions to two brothers who helped him stage a racist, anti-gay attack on himself, including giving them specific slurs to yell, telling them to shout "MAGA country" and pointing out a surveillance camera that he thought would record the beating, a prosecutor said Thursday.
Police said Smollett planned the hoax because he was unhappy with his salary and wanted to promote his career. Before the attack, he also sent a letter that threatened him to the Chicago studio where "Empire" is shot, police said.
Smollett, who is black and gay, turned himself in to face accusations that he filed a false police report last month when he told authorities he was attacked in downtown Chicago by two masked men who hurled racist and anti-gay slurs and looped a rope around his neck, police said.

Yep - there are a lot of things that don’t make sense about his instructions.....which makes me think he was getting sick advice from somebody else.....would love for him to come clean and blame it on his true allies....if that’s what really happened.

The point the Police Chief made— eloquently and no doubt heard by LOTS of chicagoans— was that 100’s of crimes against blacks happen in chi-town, horrible, real crimes— and these crimes don’t get even a minute’s mention on media tv, or in the papers— and yet this hoaxer, CREATED a fake crime to advance himself in some obtuse way. To get attention for himself (looney) AND to somehow create “fame” to justify an increase in his pay at a tv show!!
Honestly, the Police Chief wins hands down— black on black crime actually happening at an alarming rate (kids killed, druggies, and sex crimes)— and this guy gets all the media attention for something that he hired other blacks to do to him, and he has the utter gall to say the police “faked” the report. The two Nigerians will say differently, inasmuch as they are implicated in a prison sentence crime all themselves— and this clown actor, the organizer and payor—he should do time, for wasting valuable police resources.
Good point. It will be very, very interesting if evidence leads to certain well know political figures as possible co-conspirators or enablers.
Yep, the Police Chief deserves all kinds of praise for treating this hoax crime as the truly heinous crime that it is. I was fearing the since it was Chicago, home of liberal Mayors, that they wouldn’t be tough on Smollett boy. I was wrong. Both the police chief and the judge, both black, have done a good job- so far. Hope it continues.
Yep. Others have pointed out that Kamala Harris and, I think, Corey Booker, have both been pushing for this anti-lynching bill in Congress. What better way to promote this bill than to have a potential lynching happen?
And the fact that his pals are all Democratic bigwigs makes you wonder.

If he had that video, there would have been race riots all over the country and the truth probably would not have come out. It it did come out, it wouldn’t have mattered much (see OJ, Ferguson, Travon, etc).
