Full Title: Theft of decapitated mummy's head from Dublin crypt was 'planned crime' and not 'mindless vandalism', say Gardaí

Last weekend, tomb raiders decapitated and subsequently stole the head of 'The Crusader' – 800-year-old mummified remains believed to be those of a man who fought in the Crusades during the Medieval Era.

The head remains missing and there are fears it will begin to deteriorate in the open air as micro-climatic conditions in the crypt had kept it preserved.

Two other mummies – including the body of a 400-year-old nun – were also "desecrated" …(snip)

...St Michan's Church – founded in 1095 – is a popular tourist attraction in the Irish capital and its vaults receive just under 30,000 visitors a year. Its crypt – which according to local lore inspired Bram Stoker to write 'Dracula' – was previously vandalised back in 1996.

I still remember a tour of St. Michan’s (pronounced Mickins) in the 70s with a crazy old super or janitor. He was practically leering and drooling over the remains; he also had a bug about women I remember. I’m sure he’s long gone but I never forgot how we laughed for years about that tour.

“The body of a 400 year old nun”

I only went to a one room grade school-—BUT:

Shouldn’t that read “the 400 year old body of a nun”?

I certainly don’t think the nun lived to be 400 years old.

We had a few of these 400 yr old nuns as teachers in Catholic schools. They could give first hand knowledge of history from a long time ago.
