Fight or Flight response was triggered on that day among many animals and a few humans as well.

Haven’t thought of that in years. Was a little terrifying to me as a child.

Geez, as a kid, I was in Kansas dodging tornadoes when that happened. I have been to Niagra and it’s hard to visualize something like that.

I believe there was a fear that the American Falls would become the American Rapids. If I remember, the Niagara was diverted to the Canadian side and repairs made.

Eventually, the Niagara River will erode the gorge up to Lake Erie and once breached it would essentially empty the Great Lakes in short order.

Fascinating video.

I can't believe the couple sitting next to the railing next to that crack.

If I saw a crack like that in the ground at the top of the falls, I'd be out of there post haste.

In about 23,000 years.

Yes and the rate of erosion is also now much slower since what you see going over the falls is IIRC half of what would naturally occur during daylight and only 25% at night due to the water being diverted to the hydro electric power plants downstream.

Re: 23,000 years

There will be a new Ice Age by then, and the Great Lakes will be frozen until The Great Thaw - about 75,000 years later.

I guess in that case, they don’t need to worry about getting the new Peace Bridge built.

At the rate it’s going, it’d take about that long anyways.
