Just saw Captain Marvel. There was no overt social justice content. Just that she's a resilient woman. Her back story is about as touching as you're going to get in a super hero origin film. In that regard, think of Captain America's first movie for a similar emotional impact.
This is more than Captain Marvel's origin story, it's also the back story for Nick Fury and Agent Coulson. You kind of can't go wrong with a movie that features Samuel L. Jackson. Anyone who's been following the MCU will be fascinated watching the revealed history, and then the 2 scenes during the credits, especially the first scene.
The opening credits are a visual tribute to Stan Lee, a nice touch.
Brie Larson is attractive and projects credible strength, along with sensitivity. She was believable in the part.
The story was different yet familiar to fans of Marvel movies. The film essentially is a prequel Avengers story and works way better than most prequel movies.
No reason to avoid this film whatsoever, and lots of rewards for fans of MCU. The trailer for the new Spiderman film also features Samuel L. Jackson and looked quite good.
“Finally, for those boycotting the movie because lead actress Brie Larson is a liberal feminazi loon, you’re gonna have to pretty much boycott EVERY Hollywood movie from now on.”
Yes, have been, not a problem.
” But if you loathe the movie and refuse to accept or see anything with Captain Marvel... well, that’s gonna make it really hard to follow the next Marvel movie. Oh well. Your loss!”
No, it’s not, and I’ve lost nothing.
As for the "SJW" issue, I judge movies as movies, if they are good, they are good, bad, then bad. Of course excessive preaching in any movie turns me off. That said, I am willing to give this one a shot.
Its kinda sad that the anti-sjw's have gotten as triggerable as the sjw's.
Yes, well you know, naked racism tends to trigger people.
Go figure.
Here’s an honest review from a fan, no SJW stuff.

But haters driven it to 31% audience score. 58,353 votes. Guessing they did not actually see I last night.

Not too promising reviews. Like I said, I’ll catch it at a discount, if not cheaper.
I know the intersection has always appealed to me. I know it's feminine. Didn't know about the "feminist".
Thank you!
I’m going Monday with my son during the day when it’s less crowded...
I remember a similar sentiment expressed during the recent Star Wars Solo film. It was said to be filled with SJW nonsense, Lando was “pan-sexual”, etc., etc.
So we did NOT see it in the theater. Eventually, it came out on streaming media and we watched it.
Were was the SJW stuff? What Lando’s robot was saying?
Because that, folks, was humor, and really was a satire on the silliness of SJWism. It was so over the top you couldn’t take it seriously, and the robot wouldn’t shut about it to the point you were turned off. And to me, that was the point! SJW’ers are exactly like this! They won’t shut up and let life go on without remarking on everything from the SJW prism they see out of.
And he didn’t lust over his robot! He loved her, if you will, but not any sexual desire as far as we could see.
In any case, the Solo movie certainly had it’s own faults, but what was primarily ripped just wasn’t there.
As much as I can’t stand him, Woody Harelson played the villain well. And the story about how Han and Chewbacca met was great.
The sacrifices Han made because of his love of the woman was stupid, though. But not an uncommon plot. Too many men have lost their lives pursuing the female. Such is life, and is a common theme in drama because of it.
I’m not boycotting it, but I am not planning to see it. I used to read a lot of Marvel comics in my younger days, and still re-read them on occasion. But, I am tired of so many comic book movies. I am no longer current as to the story line in the cinematic MCU, and I’ve seen like 10 of the movies! 10 movies and I’m now at least 5 movies behind.
Your kidding me right? The fact that Captain Marvel is a female IS social justice content.
Yeah I wouldn’t wanna watch any movies with women in them. Come on everybody give me a break this is the toughest audience ever. I know there are people here who like the Marvel movies.
I do agree with you that while I like the movies the MCU has completely ruined American movies because there are really no serious stories being made and the money is all going into superheroes.
I think you will enjoy captain Marvel for similar reasons. Solo wasn’t a perfect movie but it had an interesting story line and some surprises and fills in things for people who are just intrested in the whole Star Wars story. I will be intrested to hear your opinion because I think captain Marvel is a better movie then Solo. And yes she is a strong positive model for young girls and women.
I predict more people go see Shazam!
I predict more people go see Shazam!
Mrs. Jewbacca saw this with the girls for a birthday party.
She said it was “OK”, nothing as good as any other of the Marvel movies and certainly not as good as Wonder Woman. “Not worth seeing outside of Netflix” is a direct quote.
Of course, she loved “Ant Man and the Wasp,” so what does she know?
FR quote of the week! If you don't mind, I'm stealing it for my blog review of the film. The hysteria about this movie is unbelivable. Also, just because the SJW loons engage in groupthink and have a hive mind, doesn't mean our side should dig our heels in and do the same: "BRIE LARSON BAD! SJW MOVIE!! MUST BOYCOTT!! OBEY WITHOUT QUESTION!!"
>> Brie Larson - born 1989 <<
Heh. She was 6 years old when the events of this movie take place? She probably doesn't even GET half the references in her OWN movie! And heck I remember 1995 well enough I think they got some things wrong. For example there's a scene where a character uses a cell phone and he pulls out a huge 1980s style brick phone. Pretty sure cell phones by 1995 had been slimmed down considerably... though most people still didn't own one.
>> I am not a fan of Samuel L. Jackson - politically or cinematically. However, I recently saw Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014). I thought Jackson was a brilliant comedy villain in that film. <<
I don't care for him as a person, either. As an actor he has a limited range so I can't say I'd go rush out to see a "Samuel L. Jackson movie", but he's been in a lot of movies I've enjoyed over the years and nobody can play BADASS as well as SLJ, in my opinion. As others have noted on this thread, Jackson is just as big a loudmouth leftist jerk as Brie Larson, so suddenly hating on Marvel because of her is stupid. As I noted, Mark Ruffalo (actor who plays the Hulk and who I haven't seen in anything else because he's a C-grade actor well below the grade of Edward Norton) is an even bigger a-hole left-wing activist than Larson and Jackson PUT TOGETHER, and I don't recall anyone demanding we boycott The Avengers when they cast him as the Hulk and he promptly used his newfound "fame" to bring attention to left-wing causes (I think he was the only white guy who boycotted the Oscars because they were "too white", that's how screwy this guy is when liberal Hollywood isn't liberal ENOUGH for him!)
And angry troll feet.
I am surprised that she can string words together like that.
Still, it's another lousy Marvel Comics superhero movie.
How good could it possibly be?
I already told you how good it is. If you don’t like Marvel movies that’s fine as well.
