The Truth About People Who Have No Personality
The Atlantic ^ | March 11, 2019 | OLGA KHAZAN

What does it mean if someone says you have no personality?

“We typically understand that we have not been paid a compliment,” write four researchers from Ouachita Baptist University in a recently published study. But the term is otherwise a little vague. Does it mean you’re quiet and reserved, or that you’re just not very unique? Are you, God forbid, basic?

The study’s conclusions point to something unfortunate for the quiet and reserved among us. People with no personality are those who don’t bombard other people with their preferences and thoughts like little opinion drones. And their image suffers for it.

Oh.

This is from The Atlantic.

The Atlantic is filled with old wrecks, crabs and sewage.

It’s also the name of an ocean.

I enjoy watching Doc Martin.

The main Character has a unique personality without really having any personality at all.

It’s a conundrum, a quandary, a dilemma, an enigma or maybe it’s just another mystery of life...

“Personality” is merely a projected image used to create a desired outcome in social/interpersonal situations. It is your actions while alone that denote one’s character, the true measure of a person.

No, NPCs would be parrots or groupthinkers, but they are bombastic and appear to have personality because of it.

Is “wooden personality” a thing? Those people who don’t get sarcasm and other forms of figurative language have it.

Better no personality than a personality like a toilet seat.

Another ridiculous study. A very invalid study. People who are “quiet and reserved”, “not very unique” and “basic” have personalities. They have a quiet and reserved personality. A not very unique or basic personality. The only folks without a personality are dead.

What? I have a “good” personality, and I’m at least a 2/10. You can’t judge us all from our personalities heh.

My wife is ugly, for no particular reason. But she can sing like a bird. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I roll over and say, “Wake up, dammit, and sing something!”

It is called “concrete thinking”. If you said you were up a creek without a paddle they’d be looking for water.

They do not abstract.

I had one child that was a bit aspi and was very concrete.

At a traffic light once many years ago we were next to a Beautyrest Mattress box truck that advertised “Better Sleep Through Science.”

She looked at the truck for a long time, then turned and asked, why do they want me to sleep through science?

Once I explained it, she understood. But concrete to the core.

I watch her now almost 10 years later, as she negotiates work and friendships, and uses a good portion of her good brain to figure out things that just come naturally to us. She had 2 years of social processing training and that helped.

She seems to save all her conundrums for me and we sit and drink tea and she will bring things up to process with me. She works very hard to figure it out and make the right choice, but it isn’t natural to her.

I have one just like that. Never gets a joke. Phi Beta Kappa, Summa, brilliant lawyer, but concrete and literal to the max.

I wouldn't say a quiet and shy person has no personality.

The person "without a personality" is the one who is so single-minded that all they can talk about is their one obsession, whether it's ferrets or flatware or fritters or flying fish or whatever.
