Actually, there are many more than that near metro areas.

I get 77 channels from an indoor antenna 55 miles from the transmitters. It is on the 2nd floor and pointed out a window, but it’s still blocked by houses and hills. I’m near the bottom of the first hill blocking it.

Some are foreign language, but also adventure and oldies and such—all free. I’d get 20+ more, if closer.

Also WB/UPN/PBS, and religious stations.

"free" is the point. I have one TV with an antenna for my bride's soaps but my other three have never seen cable.
