Elementary School Teachers Shot With Fake Bullets During Active Shooter Drill
The Cut ^ | March 20, 2019 | Kimberly Truong

Several Indiana elementary school teachers are claiming that they were left with welts, bruises, and abrasions after an active shooter training drill in January — during which they were allegedly shot at repeatedly with plastic pellets without warning.

Two anonymous teachers in Monticello told IndyStar that for the training, teachers were asked by local law enforcement to kneel down against a classroom wall, before being shot across their backs with airsoft guns.

“They told us, ‘This is what happens if you just cower and do nothing,’” one of the teachers said. “They shot all of us across our backs. I was hit four times. It hurt so bad.”

On Wednesday, the Indiana State Teachers Association called for educator and student safety to be addressed in active shooter drills at schools, tweeting that it had heard from members of the association who were injured during a recent training.

Pain is a teaching aid.

They will NEVER forget that lesson.

And personally, I'd rather see a few teachers have their backsides get stung and their precious egos get bruised than see a classroom full of Beslan-style carnage because of stupid, stubborn libs who made the kids "die in place" because they didn't know how - or refused to learn how - to take action.

We live in a different world now. This isn't the same world any of us grew up in.

There are people amongst us now that contemplate murder every day - The same people that flew airliners into the WTC; the same people that murdered all of those Russian school children in Beslan. Or just some nutcase that wants to cause pain and horror for the thrill of it or because he's mad at the world.

To pretend that threat doesn't exist, and NOT take active, pre-emptive measures to try to prevent - or in the event of an actual situation, to mitigate further slaughter - is criminally negligent.

Our children are forced by law to be in these schools for x number of hours a day; those people are responsible for the childrens' safety - THEY are the "First Responders", and if they aren't taught or trained HOW to respond in an emergency/active shooter situation, well, then you have the potential for Beslan.

We protect banks better than we protect school children. And that is criminal to me. It should be criminal to everyone.

I'm ALL IN on armed security at schools. Whatever it takes.

As far as warning them first... no active shooter is going to warn them. The shock value is a lesson all it's own.

“Gail Zeheralis, director of government relations for the ISTA, asked lawmakers to alter a school-safety bill to add language prohibiting teachers from being shot with any sort of ammunition.”

Tell that to the gunman: "you can't shoot me, I'm a teacher! shoot the kids; I can do nothing to stop you."

I guess they are not experiential learners. But probably not the best way to accomplish it. Suit 'em up with coveralls, ear and eye protection, and use paint guns.

Well, a noble thought but obviously you have never been held a gun point. Just saying

I've never been held at gunpoint but I was held at knifepoint once when I was 18. My thoughts were about an active shooter in a school setting and I would look for a chance to attack when the shooter is distracted by others - hopefully to charge from behind. If I have to charge from in front, I would likely get shot and probably killed but if I was able to knock the gun away or shove him down, that would give others a chance to escape. Who knows how one responds except in the moment but I'm in my 60s now and have lived my life so better it be me who dies than someone with their entire life before them.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Very well. It is obviously time for Indiana to allow teachers and school officials to be armed on campus.

Yep, they would not have pulled this prank had the teachers been armed. :)

That would work. Line up the whole NEA on a driving range and let Trump practice his swing.

Did you ever stop to think that the teachers may be lying. Here is the photo that accompanies the IndyStar's "story" on this. Notice the eye protection on the folks under the table? How would they know to have that if they weren't briefed in advance. It also looks like the officer is using a nerf type gun. If this is a separate event, then the IndyStar shouldn't have used this photo. If it was a photo from the alleged incident, the teachers are lying.

Yes, I did. Thank you. I also considered the possibility that the newspaper article was lying, or at the minimum, misleading. My main concern was that the “drill” would become “real”, although this time it did not.

I see that this article posting generated a response beyond what I had anticipated. Thank you all for your opinions and insight.

Yes, the teachers who participated, especially those that received a plastic pellet, Airsoft pellet, paintball, or even a nerfball shot, will not soon forget this. I would like to see an in-depth followup article written.

“The ONLY obvious way to solve this ‘problem’ is to use real ammo the next time.”

Personally, I prefer to break up their union and allow them to be fired at will, along with LOCAL CONTROL. You’d pretty much get the same results.

Our children are forced by law to be in these schools for x number of hours a day;
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Exactly! Children are in government schools by “force of law”!

To enforce a law the government uses the threat of armed police, courts, and prison. If a person is sufficiently resistant the government will kill him. THAT is what a law is. That is what compulsory government schooling is!

This is why I say, “Behind every government school teacher stand armed police, courts, and prison.” (Real bullets in those guns on the hip!)

Yes, I agree with you long term, I was just citing the moaners and groaners and the ambulance chasing shysters that will eventually be suing the School Board, Sheriff & other LEOs that had something to do with it and last but definitely not least the President.

On another front,
wouldn’t it be great if the last 2 years of Mueller he was actually working for PDJT and his report will be recommending that the whole last admin and the crooked Intel/FBI/CIA etal be investigated for treasonous acts.

Talk about exploding heads....

“... If a person is sufficiently resistant the government will kill him....”

And that’s EXACTLY why we have guns - So it isn’t easy, nor painless, for them when they try.

Simunitions would have been my choice to shoot liberal anti-gun teachers in they’re ass ......... yeah it’ll leave a nice tattoo for about 3 weeks.

Paintballs , frozen ones, second choice....

Bean Bag 12 gauge rounds would have been a hoot .

Ok now I’ll go read the article.
