Mayor Bill de Blasio charged Friday that the citys specialized high schools practice massive segregation as the controversy grows over admissions criteria to the elite institutions.
Thats why were doing something bold here, and were saying were not going to live by this old system that has perpetuated massive segregation not just segregation, massive segregation, de Blasio said on WNYC radio.

In another article in the NY Post, a successful black alumnus of one of the "elite" schools discusses why there are so few black and Hispanic students in them today.
"...From the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s, black and Hispanic kids made up close to half or more of the Brooklyn Tech student body. Stuyvesant and Bronx Science, the other original specialized schools, had many more black and brown kids than today, though not a majority.
That historical success deserves a close look, Davis and other alumni contend, in light of this past weeks dismal news: Black and Latino kids received just 10.6 percent of the 4,798 seats offered at eight specialized schools for the 2019-20 school year. Whites got 28.5 percent, and Asian-Americans picked up the most 51 percent.
What happened? Experts cite three major factors: The reduction and dearth of gifted or honors programs in black and Hispanic neighborhoods, the influx of Asian immigrants, and the test-prep craze."
When you have 75% of the black kids in the city being born out of wedlock, with no father in the picture, you do not have a very good chance of having disciplined hard-working focused students as a result. And, the reality is, you don't. You see far more black students, followed by HIspanic students, walking the halls cutting class while classes are going on. You see that virtually every time, it is a black kid who is the first to act out in a class. They have much lower rates of turning in homework and lower test scores, which they invariably blame on "racism", how Al Sharpton et al taught them to cover for their own lack of effort. You also have far more serious incidents which merit harsher punishments, and a strong anti-education culture, where kids who do well academically are publicly ridiculed and accused of "acting white". So they themselves identify doing poorly academically as "the black way". Is it a surprise that a cash-strapped educational department would then cut classes for gifted and honors classes in predominately black high schools then? The fact is, they couldn't find enough students with good enough academic averages to make up even a single class, where it would be worth using a teacher for, of honors level classes. That's a fact, that's not bigotry. I saw it with my own eyes. So, as this article says, "reduction and dearth of gifted or honors programs in black and Hispanic neighborhoods" contributed to far less blacks and Hispanics acing the entrance exam to an elite high school. Not "massive segregation" as this anal orifice mayor claims, trying to cover for them. They did it to themselves.
The “test prep craze” has been going on for about 40 years.
Treating people as individuals is racist... ..
these commie types are doing every imaginable (and many un-impaginable) things to undermine our country, our values, our morals, our society....and all these racist entry quotas, pass quotas, racist hiring quotas, racist promotion quotas are a very effective way of weakening our schools, our businesses, our industries, ... our entire ability to keep USA going successfully.
put enough unqualified dodos into key posts and entire corporations, industries, manufacturies, businesses are weakened, destroyed from within
De Blasio is desperate for relevance and just keeps digging his hole to obscurity deeper and deeper.
Why isn’t anyone on the left criticizing the “massive segregation” in college basketball teams?
ps:
and all this racism imposed by leftist political hacks...
is creating tremendous racial animosities .. among Americans who normally would not be so inclined
this will eventually tear our country apart, especially with all the reported SorozNazi type funding of violent racist “agitprop” groups and gangs like, say, Ferguson etc
Dear Mayor: It is not “segregation”; it is merit-based achievement.
Put a merit based high school in your town, and have intact, well adjusted and hard working families move in.
This retromingent jackass is a mental case—evident to every sane person except Debozio.
Blowjobio demands equality... equal distribution of misery.
I believe crappy, substandard education for everyone is the goal. Then it will be fair.
Please send your post as letter to editor to ny post!!!
The mayor might notice that Asians are on the right side of the curve compared to the other races.
To equalize the curve for everybody, brain surgery might be necessary for the races on the right to lower their scores. Or maybe just more vaccines for the races that have an unfair IQ advantage. Surely the gubermint can do something to make it fairer for all.
I blame the whole mess on kids self identifying as birds. As everyone knows birds of a feather flock together. That is the way of nature.
NYC is all Democrat and liberal.
Hmm
That chart is racist....
to dimwitted people who don’t realize how statistical distribution works...
Yes, dumb democrat you can have a dumb Asian and a smart Black and smart Hispanic.
The sooner we recognize the IQ difference between races, the sooner we can find way to ENHANCE the IQ of ALL PEOPLE through the application of nutritional supplements, drugs (the good kind) and retro-viral genetic engineering.
I got into an argument about someone who was bitching about how I could be against the abortion of downs kids, I told them that if we as a society takes care of them, we will be pushed more to develop therapies to HELP them and by doing so we develop tools to help EVERYONE!
Desegregate the National Basketball Association!
Justice now!
Quotas for Japanese and Finns, regardless of talent.
Its not about basketball, its about race.
And Gender, Ethnicity, Class, and Ability too.
Too many able people in the NBA - what about the the disabled? (Excuse me, Other-abled)
That is the point. If all were truly equal, the results of the exam would reflect the demographics of the city. Political correctness is delusion and the policies generated by it are inherently flawed. Notice how this does not affect the wealthy liberals who control NYC. If they have kids, they are sheltered in private schools. Aspiring Asians, poor whites, capable blacks and Hispanics will be hurt. Just another reason to leave NYC once you have children. NYC is a good place to live if you are wealthy, gay or are a barren feminist.
Putting people in places they are not prepared to be to succeed based on their skin color or genitalia, while to the detriment of those qualified that could have been there, is racist and sexist towards all involved.
