Till the oxygen is used up and your gray matter begins to rot.

I’ve had my heart stopped 5 times and I still take my cat out for a walk every morning.

Does not the brain control the central nervous system???

The heart stopping should not affect the nervous system if the brain is still functioning...If this is so, then a person could still move with the heart stopped...

What a nightmare. Hope it’s only for a short period of time - like seconds.

I think the basic problem here is assuming that because someone has a definition of death that is accepted means that the definition is accurate.

[[This means you are essentially ‘trapped’ inside your dead body with your brain still working, if only for a short time.]]

I had an NDE- while the brain is ‘still alive’ it’s ‘alive’ in a state of misfiring synapses which is designed to protect the dying brain in a sense- and in such a state, the body I believe usually doesn’t feel much as the mind is working ‘overtime’ misfiring, causing visions- usually of seeing a bright light, but in my case is was black hell-

I’ve “died” twice, and the only thing I saw, both times, was a rerun of Welcome Back Kotter.

The people who “came back from the dead” were not dead. What they say cannot be used to determine what happens to people who have died.

Eh? “near death” is not death. We know what happens during the “near death” period. We do not know what happens to those who die.

What they are saying here is reasonable and might be true, but can never be proved, so it is not scientific.

What you know seconds after death is whether what you are experiencing is the face of Jesus Christ welcoming you to heaven, or the flames of hell scorching your soul.

Before the advent of opiods, people would either be smiling or screaming at the point of death based on which floor the elevator was heading.

If you want to know what it’s like when you die, go under anesthesia for a surgery.

When you die ‘you KNOW you’re dead because your brain keeps working’

Been there, done that. Got the T-Shirt.

When you are dead, your brain is dead too.

You can only “know” you are dead, because your soul is floating away from your body.

If you don’t believe you have a soul, then you are dead, when your body is dead.

It sounds like they are speculating that there is a materialistic explanation for near death experiences, yet they blithely mention some patients recalling being able to SEE what was going on around them. Now, maybe it’s possible that you could hear things occurring after your heart stopped, but to see what is happening would require a spirit that is separate from the body.

Most people at that point have their eyes closed, and even if open, once circulation stops vision would stop immediately as well. Think about pulling Gs in an aircraft: At around 5 Gs most people will start to lost peripheral vision and approaching roughly 9 Gs will fall unconscious. With no blood pressure you’re not seeing anything, period, proving that those who do are in the spirit and are outside their bodies at that point.

My Dad died of cancer in 2007 at age 81 - I was resting my hand on his shoulder when he breathed his last and said my Mom’s name - she had passed 13 years before. I don’t know if he saw her, or felt her presence.

I had a heart attack. I first fainted and fell on the floor with enough force to break my nose and a finger. I had no memory of from just before I fainted till the time I woke up without realizing I was injured until I saw blood on the floor. It would have been a very peaceful yet sudden ending.
