Michelle Obama’s bare arms may have prompted tutting from protocol watchers when she was First Lady, but all that midlife women around the world cared about was how she got those killer biceps.

The 55-year-old former First Lady provided a clue on the London leg of her book tour recently, when she checked into Orangetheory Fitness.

It’s a high-intensity, science-backed, training class, where you navigate quick changes between running machines, rowers and floor exercises such as squats and weights, while a heart monitor tracks your progress.

Orangetheory is a vastly overpriced exercise salon that is currently popular with the yuppie crowd. The secret to fit arms is the same as for any body part. Diet and exercise. For the arms bicep curls (dumbell or barbell), (pull ups if you are strong enough though most women are not), triceps extensions, push-ups and kettlebell swings will do the trick nicely. Generally - pulling exercises work the biceps and pushing exercises work the triceps. Bottom line is the discipline to stick to your diet and hit the gym at least three times a week.

Of course, in the case of Babe, it was a colorful exaggeration. In the case of Michelle Obama, it's merciful understatement.
