I'd like to point out that we already have a national banking system. It's called the Federal Reserve: it is the place of last resort for a bank who wants to process a check. It's expensive, which is why banks have negotiated a number of out-of-channel peering arrangements with each other for clearing checks.
At least AOC is calling for a competing bank, and not killing off the existing banks.
As long as the taxpayers don't foot part of the bill. Been there, done that, don't have the T_shirt.
