Suicidal ‘Handmaid’ turns out to be a red umbrella

A New Yorker called 911 when she thought she saw a person in the iconic red robes from “The Handmaid’s Tale” on the ledge of a Manhattan building Tuesday — but it turned out to be just be a crimson umbrella on a rooftop.

“This morning I called 911 because I thought a woman dressed as a handmaid was about to jump off a building,” Casey McCormick posted on her Instagram story, and later on Twitter.

“The police were in constant contact with me as they figured out where to go and how to find the woman,” McCormick added.

The 30-year-old Brooklyn resident told The Post it was “startling” to see what she thought was a person at the top of a building from her office desk.

“There’s just so much going on [politically] it wouldn’t surprise me if someone was taking a stand and it became very scary,” said McCormick, citing recent anti-abortion legislation.

If you squint your eyes just so when looking at a blurry photo, why yes. Sorta. Kinda. Though not really.

I blew the image up double size. It looks to me as much like a person as an umbrella. I’d have called 911, too, I think.

Because it’s NYC and Anything is possible.

I stopped questioning anything I saw 2 decades ago.

And I’ve seen some FREAKY things.

So you can have some shade when you go on the roof.

"So you can have some shade when you go on the roof.”

This being New York where it's either outlawed, need a permit or be in a union, why would you be on a roof?

Here in Tennessee, you're usually building, repairing, drunk or a teenager(or both) sunning oneself or you need no reason at all.

And the law only gets involved if it's not your roof you're on. We are a free people here in Tennessee, rednecks or not!

Did the person ever walk closer to the edge, or just stand there the whole time without moving?

That reminds me of the story of the guy whose bartender cut him off after he was seen conversing with three closed black patio umbrellas about their culture and faith.

Never heard of it being outlawed. Maybe it is. I don’t know.

I never lived in the city but most of my family did. I have pics of folks on the roof. Guess they went up there for better light in their Easter best.

So I figure, why not go on the roof? I’d do it. Some rooftop cafes around but this wouldn’t be the case in the article because there’s only one umbrella. Maybe some guy working on patching. Could be building super, not wanting sunburn.

Some’d just go on the roof because it’s there. Nice, open, breezy. Different than the ground. What’s not to love?

Let me rephrase this.

"In New York, where MOST things are outlawed, need a permit or be in a union"

There, fixed it.
