A man accused of swindling $80,000 from a Georgia woman he met online has been arrested in Tennessee -- and is wanted in other states for similar scams, authorities said.
John Martin Hill, 35, connected with the woman from Alpharetta, Georgia, on Match.com in late March, the Gwinnett County Police Department said Wednesday.
Hill took the woman out on a date the same day they met, and the two agreed to get married within a week of meeting, authorities said.
He told the woman he's a millionaire, and they decided to invest in a love nest. The woman gave her now fiancé $80,000 to help with the home's purchase, police said.
"During their short romance, he convinced her that they were in love and wanted to buy a house together. They went house-hunting and selected a home they were interested in," police said.
When he got the money, he cut all contact with the woman, police said.

Media suggest young people today have their sense of community via texting. We know they disdain cars.
It would follow that online dating for them is what meeting someone at a singles bar was for their parents.
Full disclosure, I haven’t been around youngsters in years. Retirement can do that to you.
seemed like a handsome successful man.
They all want cars. They just can't afford cars and auto insurance today.
So they sit at home and text.
And do online dating, which is
Texting With a Purpose. LOL
Match.com? The modern day lonely hearts club.
So, where did the idea of a “Sugar Daddy” come from?
There is a saying “a fool and HIS money are soon parted.” Granted, not so long ago, “he” could refer to male or female, but the point is, the saying was not “a fool and HER money...” So in the past, it was acknowledged that both sexes are capable of foolishness.
Male or female, we all can be deceived by matters of the heart. And for every instance where you can put to a woman foolishly loving and trusting a man, you can point the other way.
There is other saying that are not applied to just one sex, “keep eyes wide open before marriage, half closed afterward.”
Basically, sir, I am saying this. Don’t be so smug — you may be next to listen to your heart and your desires, and not your brain, and all the while believing you are listening to your brain.
Well, first of all, I am not a “sir.” “Sugar Daddies” refer to two people who know exactly what they are getting, a really hot young woman who provides sexual favors to an older, wealthy man. Call it quid pro quo. This is none of my business, and I don’t have any problem with it. This woman gave a stranger $80,000 with no guarantee, no legal protections, and no protections. She knew him a week? I can guarantee you, this will never happen to me.
look in the mirror, idiot....
I need to see a picture of this woman. I suspect she is probably plain and homely and this guy looked like her prince charming. So she willingly gives the guy $80,000 for True Love. Kind of sad.
Hey “Cherry” why don’t you take your anger and hostility to a professional psychiatrist. You clearly have major psychological issues. I post a very simple comment, and you go full-blown hostile. My guess is you are either a closet left-wing fanatic or a crazed right-wing nut-job that give rational, middle of the road Americans a bad name. Either way, get some professional help buttercup.
Ha!
Glad you liked it...
Loneliness and gullibility. So sad.
I met and dated an Ethiopian princess. It was awesome!
My ex did the same thing!!! She just took 6 years to do it... She’s on the long term payment plan. Doubt she’ll get locked up though...
