Residents of Virginia Beach have been left fuming after Memorial Day weekend beachgoers left piles of garbage on the shore.
Public work crews and citizen volunteers responded to the Chic's Beach area of Virginia Beach before dawn on Monday to clean up after the mess left after the annual 'Floatopia' party.
A total of ten tons of garbage was removed from the shore, compared to the average of one ton following a typical weekend, WAVY-TV reported.
Video of the disgusting aftermath shot by resident Melissa Noel quickly went viral after she posted it on Facebook, drawing furious reactions from locals and elected officials alike.
'I was disappointed to wake up this morning to see images trash all over our beautiful Chesapeake Bay beach after Sunday’s festivities,' city councilman Michael F. Berlucchi wrote on Twitter.
'We can do better than this! Let’s work together to keep our City beautiful,' he said.
'Each one of you is a piece of trash- you left a piece of your ignorant $@@ on the beach,' resident Linda Berardi wrote on Facebook.

I wonder if people attending a mass event are more likely to litter than a similar number of people going somewhere as individuals. Is there something about the kind of people who want to be at a weekend mob scene, vs. the kind of people who don’t?
Nothing new. I worked at an Atlantic Avenue business in the late 1980s. Hordes of people from Philthadelphia and Noo Yawk $#!++y, in the guise of "tourists", would show up and have drunken riots and trash the place and commit various personal crimes against the sane people. Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends were particularly bad. Labor Day "Greek Week" (members of negro "Greek Letter" organizations") were by far the worst of the lot.
This is my thinking also. Isn’t this the traditional Spring Break place for black colleges and universities?
If it’s white trash, I guess that part is new. In the 1980s it was definitely black trash. Also, invading Chick’s beach is a bit new … used to be the ocean front.
The Daily Mail is not afraid to report on racial issues here in the US.
