The first trailer for Ford v. Ferrari starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale is out.
The biopic tells the true story of how in 1966, Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) and Lee Iacocca (Jon Bernthal) tasked legendary auto designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and driver Ken Miles (Bale) to design a car that will defeat Ferrari at the legendary 24 Hours at LeMans race.
The result was the Ford GT40, which became the first car ever created by an American company to win the iconic race.

Or make chili.
It is all part of the Shelby mystique and legend. The man is completely larger than life. I would love to see an accurate and top quality biographical movie based on his life. No clue who I would want to play him.
When I went to the Shelby American auto museum in Boulder, Colorado, it was closed due to a private showing. I was so bummed, the curator told me if I hung out a while, he might let me come in for a brief look, since I had come all the way from San Francisco to see the Cobras.
The private showing only lasted another 45 minutes, and eventually he came out and let me in to see the cars. He let me stay as long as I wanted to and I had the entire place to myself.
Suffice to say, they eventually had to kick me out. I would have stayed all day. REAL Shelbys that went to war and came home victorious. Pictures just don’t do them justice. You have to ponder and savor every curve on a Cobra.
Of course there were Shelby Mustangs and a GT40 or 2 as well. I can’t remember for sure.
THE CAR IS THE STAR.
Liberals who adamantly believe in Man Made caused Climate Change, hate Big Oil and Fossil Fuels making a Movie about a bunch of Gas Guzzling Cars racing around a Track for 24 Hours.
You can’t make this stuff up.
There is a fantastic video on YouTube that tells the story about the GT40 with Dan Gurney, Carroll Shelby etc.
Basically Henry Ford 2nd trying to buy Ferrari who backed out at the last minute. Thats when Ford said he wanted the trophy.
I’m all over this movie, despite the terrible casting. Damon is a panzie. It is going to be really frustrating seeing him playing an iconic real-life tough guy. I can just see Matt Damon dropping nitro pills for his heart during an auto race. NOT!
Here is hoping the casting does not completely ruin the movie. My biggest fear is that the racing is only going to be a small bit of the movie.
My favorite racing movie is LeMans. The cars ARE the characters. Best racing movie of all time and 2nd place is not even close. No talking. No love story. OK, 3 minutes of talking and love story, and Steve McQueen probably fought like the dickens to remove even that from the film. I don’t think there is any dialogue the first 20 minutes of LeMans, and the sound of the cars on the track is just heavenly.
I hate watching auto racing these days. The idiot announcers feel they have to talk about inane BS through the ENTIRE race. It can be 3 hours, 5 hours or 12 hours. These jackasses will just spew crap the entire race and NEVER broadcast the beautiful motor noises of the cars themselves for any length of time.
Morons. I hate how they are ruining racing broadcasts with their CONSTANT worthless banter. It is infuriating.
Thanks.
Oh that is so cool.I have some reading to do.Thank you.I know a guy named Rick Tombs in Tennesee. He operated the dyno at Holman/Moody that tested the 427s for the Gt40 program. They ran the engines through the course of 24 hours of Le Mans without ever leaving Detroit.
Overheated consistently between turn 8 and 11 on a Texas road course according to a Quorum thread. And the battery pack refused to cool down even at low throttle/load. But yes, the 10.5 quarter by the refreshed s is amazing and it was handling pretty well on the road course.
Win on Sunday, sell on Monday!
Now if we can beat them damned toyotas.
And the announcers love affair with Toyota and Kyle Busch, who is as mature as my little brother...
Iacocca then went on to become the head of Chrysler........
As a side note, this is the same Ford family that has driven the Detroit lions into the cellar of mediocrity.....
Costner I still can stand, his show on Paramount did not look too bad.
Damon on the other hand is an actor I can’t stand even before he started opening his mouth. Costner or Tom Cruise would have been better as Shelby, Damon just comes across as too Effeminate to play a guy like him.
“When did this guy have time to design cars?”
Maybe one of the reasons he went through so many wives?
In 1964, they tried running the Cobra Daytona Coupe as the "opening salvo" against Ferrari (during the GT40's troubled debut). They gave Ferrari a pretty good run, but lost some time due to minor mechanical failures. The Daytona Coupe was a true "shoestring" project by Shelby, who had a bit of a feud going with Enzo Ferrari even before Henry Ford, II did.
I think I like the Le Mans cars of that era the best. Beautiful cars. The ones from the 1950s are great too. Stirling Moss era.
Yes, the real magic of that period peaked between the GT40’s debut and the last run of the Porsche 917. The period that followed saw early attempts at adding downforce, which resulted in ugly cars (like the Can-Am series versions of the 917, nowhere near as pleasing as the earlier models).
Amazon Prime has the story of how Ford prepared and won LeMans on the 50th anniversary of the original GT40 win.
