And wearing anything that plugs your ears (hearing aids are the opposite) is bad for situational awareness.

they aren’t shoved in tight! it just makes me look unapproachable.
BTW i have a crazed liberal lady neighbor who has yelled at me to remove my plugs so she can speak with me. She thinks its rude that i walk but don’t stop to chat. I DON”T want to speak with her.

This. One rule I was violating when I did the “fake phone call” was an important one to me: Looking alert. I have a friend that is a “gun nut”. He has his suits tailored to fit his holster. He said he can tell if a person walking down the street is armed with a gun, simply by the way they carry themselves as they walk.
After hearing that, I actually started walking down the street, imagining I’ve got a nice .45 in a holster.
