I do not see value in open carry when I can conceal carry. Why advertise? When I open carry, I also conceal carry.

Open carry is legal in CA.

But I’m not into freaking out my neighbors. They’ll call the cops and I might get shot dead.

I concel a glock 17 in a highrise eagle industry holster and a lcr in my pocket. Not a huge fan of open carry unless I’m on my property. And a keltek sub2000 in my cars or trucks (+ 3 happy sticks) I like happy sticks.

I’m in west Texas and open carry daily. The problem with concealed is it usually requires two hands to get your pistol clear of the holster. I carry a small 9mm in a leather snap holster that I can easily clear with one hand. Allot of the video’s seen that show a CCW pulling the pistol involves tying up the off hand to clear clothing out of the way. Your off hand is your first line of defense at close quarters, don’t hobble it trying to get clothing out of the way. If concealed carry is needed carry a pistol small enough to easily get in and out of a pocket.

This subject was talked about the other day at the coffee shop and one of my buddies jokingly said he’s just shoot everybody with their shirttail out, why take chances.

Is open carrying becoming more common? Do you open carry? If not, why not?

Here in Michigan Open Carry has been legal for decades but it was only in around 2001 where it came to light after Michigan became a "shall issue" state.

With that being said, I've only seen maybe 4 or 5 individuals openly carrying in the past few years.

As for me, I have a CPL permit but I'm not about to draw attention from any LEOs because somebody called them on........ I leave it in my car.

As a senior on crutches, open carry
makes it too easy to be disarmed by surprise.
I conceal.

I do...cross draw S&W Mod 15 when I’m in the US -eg out of Illinois. Also have a stinger 38 snubby in right front pocket in case someone tries to get cute and grab the OC (they’d have to know the retention system). As far as democrats making a scene over “a gun”.... n4ver had it happen at least in Arizona.

I usually carry in an OWB holster for comfort. I also tend to wear clothes that tend to cover the weapon. Here in Indiana we don’t have a CCW we have a LTCH (License to Carry Handgun). I see open carry all the time and nobody gives those that choose to carry that way any mind. Doesn’t really matter whether you open carry or conceal carry just carry.

I don’t open carry here in Texas because I don’t need to. If things get rough though, I will.

I haven’t seen anyone open carry here, much more common in rural areas.

Open carry is not allowed in IL unless you are law enforcement or active military on base. We have concealed, but it’s very expensive and meeting the requirements is also expensive and time-consuming.

I haven’t gotten into a class yet. Money has been tight.

Here in MO too have never seen it. Also permitless carry does not overrule town laws against open carry. Can be misdemeanor. They cannot van concealed.

A definate uptick here in Colorado. Most times it hardly gets a reaction. I see it as educational and a conversation starter about rights. Besides, anything that causes the left to be triggered is likely a good thing.

Towns cannot prohibit open carry with concealed permit but still not seeing it. Only do it myself in town when I forget to tuck over it.

Been open carrying since 98. Job requirement. Only have had one strip attempt, knock on wood.

But I never carry open when off the clock. IWB four oclock and have never had anyone see it.

Or at least speak of it.

The only place I don’t carry is in a federal building with metal detectors.

A couple things of things to keep in mind if you open carry.

25 percent of all cops murdered with firearms are done with their own weapon. That’s despite training and retention holsters.

Most robbers case a place at least some before they hit it. 40 percent of the time they have a standoff guy in the place to take out heroes.

I really like open carry for one major reason. To re-normalize the sight of a gun as being common. When I went to high school, every pickup in the parking lot had a gun rack in the back window with a rifle or shotgun in it. Now days people would probably call the cops on you.

We need to work on normalizing the idea of guns everywhere and out in the open. It is the right to keep and bear arms, not the right to keep and hide arms.

It is funny how far we have come (and not in a good way). It used to be guns in the open were seen as good while hiding them was considered to be nefarious intent.

New Mexico has open carry in it’s constitution. I open carry in the rural areas, and carry concealed in more urban areas that have a higher percentage of bed wetters.
