Believe me I have read every review that compares the mobile Ryzen processors with their Intel counterparts and the full size 17” touch screen laptop that I used for 18 months had an i5 8250u with an inexpensive discrete GPU.

A man that does his homework.

The reviews of the Ryzen 5 based HP Envy 15” X360 were basically all written before AMD released the new series of drivers that made a huge difference in reliability and performance.

Got them as soon as I installed and ran it (Windows 10).

Thermal efficiency and power consumption is not that great of a factor in desktop computers.

It should not be, and this Ryzen 3 3200g runs much quieter than my old AMD 4350, and uses half the watts. However, ADATA SU655 120GB 3D NAND 2.5 inch SATA III SSD runs around 46-50C even with fans blowing over and out of it.

And they typically also have not done a good job letting customers know which manufacturers are using severe thermal throttling to make up for deficiencies in their case designs.

Mine is open on both sides, with fans blowing in and out.

I went sideways on your thread largely as a reaction to some of the other posts. I haven’t put a desktop together for many years and was interested in your project and suggestions. I think that what you came up with was really great and likely was very helpful to others here. I used to tape a lot of charity events for my wife and I should have been using a desktop for encoding the video. The heat generated from these projects sent a couple of my laptops to an early demise. Even with current processors it is better to do this type of project on a desktop.

I had never heard of pcpartpicker.com; it is a fascinating site and concept. Congratulations on your completed project and thank you for sharing!
