After news hit on Monday that newly-named "Saturday Night Live" cast member Shane Gillis had been fired from the show, famed "SNL" alum Norm Macdonald expressed his outrage at the decision, declaring "war" and reaching out to Gillis directly.
"Of course you know, this means WAR," Macdonald wrote on Twitter, captioning a report on Gillis' firing. The post is now Macdonald's "pinned" tweet.

Just out of curiosity how many SNL performers had you heard of before they were on the show? I haven’t watched SNL in more than 20 years but it’s not because I have never heard of any given person on there. I guess maybe I don’t understand why you would think being ignorant is an admiral trait.

Edgy. One can only imagine the furor if a conservative had said that. It is as predictable as the dawn that "It isn't racism when we do it" isn't a very strong defense in these days of pervasive SJW triggering. Whose fault is that? "Cancel culture" didn't originate on the right, and the people who wish to stifle free speech with hate speech laws aren't conservatives.
Still, First Amendment considerations don't stretch to private hiring decisions. SNL can hire whoever they want. But this "war" that has been declared will soon run afoul of the fundamental "no enemies on the Left" premise that rules Hollywood. They'll bend over backwards to blame Trump but everyone knows it's a lie.
