A study funded and brought to you by the California Wine Industry I’m sure...
Just like all of those silly wine memes on Facebook. Anyone who doesn’t think these are created by industry marketing groups are nuts.
The problem is, most people don’t drink like the “studies” indicate. A glass of wine is 5 ounces — not a large glass filled to the top which can be as much as a pint.
Bill Cody was famous for taking the advice of his doctor — who told him to cut back to one glass of bourbon a day — so he just got a (much) bigger glass.
Alcohol overall is an insidious vice in our country, particularly more recently among women. They have been convinced by social media (and underhanded ad campaigns through those platforms) that drinking is just a silly, harmless bunch of fun. Many of us have watched the decline of loved ones because they were convinced of its harmlessness.
I’m not in favor of prohibition (I’m for the legalization of many drugs including marijuana), but let’s not kid ourselves of any “health” efficacy for the sake of placating our desires and faults.
Ran a 10K race yesterday. At the finish line they served beer.
I should live a long time.
The problem with this study is that it is a lot easier to measure how many drinks a day someone has had vs their definition of exercise.
I see people at the gym every day and I would’t call what they do exercise. More like sitting on a machine and talking on their phone.
It is an “early” death if they are otherwise remarkably healthy (say that they have the physiological characteristics of someone who has a chronological age of 20 or 30 years younger), but then they drop dead one day for no apparent reason. Probably these deaths are genetically programmed as apoptotic cell deaths, rather than necrotic cell failures due to disease.
I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking improves longevity. Honestly, I dont think we need any further explanation. Im sold. This is what Dr. Kawas said at the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences annual conference. So not only does beer make you live longer, apparently it also makes you lose weight, which we have proof from Del Hall.
After which, the good doctor went off and bought her weekly bottle of Glenmorangie.
Remember, this is for people who made it to 90. In other words, they were going to make it to 90 already, so it is sort of a self selected group. Not a whole lot of meaning or guidance.
I do both, I’m gonna live to 120! Get my exercise by officiating football and baseball, then come home and drink a beer!
If you drink enough alcohol no one would even know if you are dead. I had an uncle like that once. Took 4 days for him to start smelling.
At last. A worthwhile study.
Lol
I do neither, and that is another one of those useless “studies” that will be quoted and used to justify things that should not be justified.
9 is 1.3 drinks a day. For a 200 lb+ man you wouldnt even get a buzz if you do those over 4 nights, much less drunk, so Id hardly say thats even borderline alcoholism. Like all things, weight, your tolerance level and moderation all need to go into account.
Had a person visit us for a few weeks.
She stayed up front that she usually had “a wine” to relax before bed.
Found out that “a wine” meant a large bottle.
When I challenged her, she stated that she was down to one bottle from 4 to 5 per day. She was celebrating her great improvement when she drank all my vodka, rum and gin supply in the house.
Recently learned that alcoholics are drinking the hand sanitizer, even when hospitalized. It is 70% ethyl alcohol. They add salt to separate the water and gel, then pour it through a cloth or coffee filter.
Methinks the Alcohol Manufacturers Assoc paid for this study, the Exercise Equipment Man Assoc...
I just realized, I may be immortal. ;-/
I live by following synchronisities.
24 hours in a day.
24 bottles of beer in a case.
Coincidence, I think NOT
