It remains to be seen if the latest incarnation of Rambo will attract audiences. Most of those who go to movie theaters these days are likely unfamiliar with all the earlier incarnations of Stallone's Rambo films. The first was in 1982, First Blood. It dealt, in exaggerated form, with the anger and resentment toward the returning vets from Vietnam. The Left's intolerance for our military was as egregious then as it is now. For inexplicable reasons, leftists loathe our first line of defense against our enemies, whom they always seem to revere or defend. "It was ever thus," to quote Una Merkel in the original Parent Trap.
So for those of us who revere those who served, who gave their lives to defeat communism, First Blood was welcome revenge porn. The young man being hunted by law enforcement was the good guy, trained by our own government. Without cause, he was deemed an enemy of the people, which, of course he was not, in any way, shape, or form. But he did know how to defend himself. He had a particular set of skills.
There were several other Rambo films over the years — five of them. Some of them were not very good, but despite their obvious faults that made them fodder for every film critic on the planet, each of the Rambo films had a clear good versus evil, right versus wrong core message. Stallone was never a Shakespearean thespian, but that did not matter any more than it did in the Rocky films. He was a tough kid from the streets who was driven by a gratitude for life and a will to be relevant.
This current manifestation of the Rambo character is predictable by any film critic's dismissive standards. They will delight in trashing it.

I hope that question was rhetorical and not directed at me.
Why you? You posted about appalled ‘Rambo creator’.
Just watched it and I thought it was very good. Definitely on par with the first one.
The drug and people trafficking cartels in Mexico are the dregs of humanity.
I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.
Rambo movies were the first time I knew that all one had to do is jump up in the air just before an 81mm mortar shell burst at one’s feet in order to avoid being shredded.
One of my all-time favorite movies.
How do you spell - Narco State ?-— MEXICO !!!
After seeing the movie—I wonder why anyone would want to ever visit Mexico. It is a failed state. Communism there might be an improvement.
This movie tells a fitting story to the Rambo character attempting to come home and live a normal life with PTSD and having real life problems open up old wounds. But hey, this is Rambo and as often as he runs from violence, when it is forced upon him, there is no mercy to the enemy. In this case ruthless sub human Mexican cartel gang members that kill his niece.
Also, the fact that Rambo first uses a Winchester Model 92, than an M1 Garand, pump shotgun, long before he starts using an H-bar rifle. So much for those evil black rifles. Plus blasting the enemy in his home alone movie version of Rambo built Vietnam tunnels with the Doors "Five to One" blaring at them as the criminal illegals are eliminated. What is not to like?
Great job Stallone.
I just saw the movie, and it wasnt bad. My family used to live in El Paso, Texas for many years, and the stuff that a lot of the Mexican cartels do in the movie is pretty accurate to life. They are the scum bags of the earth. If anybody thinks this kind of stuff doesnt go on, theyre very naïve or just plain stupid.
