Trust me, if the police were called the child was having much more than a tantrum. My SIL works with special needs children and they can get very violent and out of control. These days I doubt such inability for self control is restricted to those students. I have heard tales of teachers being slugged, bitten, kicked, spit on, slapped- you name it. And these kids are super strong when it that state.

The teachers and administration are very, very, very, restricted on how they are allowed to handle such aggression. Often their only choice is to call law enforcement. Otherwise they risk a law suit for violating the dear ones civil rights as well as any personal injury claims.

I understand. When I went to school, they had the paddle and were not bashful in using it. In the the second and third grades the teacher would twist your ear, pull your hair, and shake you too. And spank the palm of your hand with a ruler.

What did our parents say to that? “If he/she gives you any trouble, blister his/her butt.”

Given the “heroic” record of a few of the Florida LEOs, surprised they didn't tase the kid and then go to her home and shoot her stuffed dogs...

They arrest a child for a tantrum but don’t you dare arrest those black teens for punching the teacher, selling drugs, stealing or that mentally ill white dude with an AR15 who just entered the front door

Yeah, gramma. That's what happens when teachers aren't able to discipline and control the students. The students get progressively worse until the school's only option is call the cops.

Welcome to liberal education.

When I was a kid, I was fighting Jimmy B. in gym and Mr.M took us to his office and whipped us good. ................. We never did that again.

The schools can no longer discipline students- so what else are they supposed to do when a student gets physically aggressive? I don’t care if this child was only 6, she could have seriously injured herself, another student, or a staff member at the school.

Why in the world would they arrest a 6 year old for tantrum?

Not sure what to do, but tell that to the thousands of teachers getting beaten every day in screwels all over our country. They are told not to touch the little darlings or they'll get fired and have trouble getting teaching jobs.

I know of a teacher of "special" students who has been ruthlessly beaten, kicked, and had things thrown at her over the past years, and the administration won't do a damn thing about it.

The little brat should have been dragged down to the principal's office and left there with whoever is in charge. My heart goes out to the teachers of these stinking brats no matter how old they are.

Where are the mother and the father?

Exactly. My guess is they weren’t raised any better than the grandchild is being raised.

mmm ... not enough info. My oldest was told ‘no’ plenty, but still went through a phase of tantrum throwing whenever the feeling struck her.

When it was in public I would pick her up throw her over the shoulder and out to the car we went.

Few months later phase was over.

In this case sounds like there is also medical involved.

“In this case sounds like there is also medical involved.”

or at least that’s the excuse.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

You can say that about any kid whose parents are out of the house as soon as the kid is 6 months old. Grandmothers are raising kids, strangers at day care it’s rampant.

I forget where I heard this, but it's pretty appropriate here:

If you spoil your kids, you'll end up raising your grandkids.
If, however, you raise your kids, you'll get to spoil the grandkids!
