The BBC's highly-anticipated sci-fi drama, The War Of The Worlds, has dropped it's first trailer.
Veering away from the 2005 Hollywood version - which starred Tom Cruise, was helmed by Steven Spielberg and was set in the present day - the three-part series takes place in Edwardian England, harking more accurately back to the source text.
The novel - written by H. G. Wells and published in 1897 - sees martians, in the form of giant, spindly-legged machines - attack Earth, on hunt for resources.

The 2005 Hollywood version stunk on ice IMO. Those 2 kids needed a serious butt whoopin’.
HG Wells original. ..what a classic.
I’m issuing a spoiler. In the end the alien invaders all die from a virus because they forgot to get their flu shots before they set off for earth........
They come from a society that doesn’t believe in vaccines.......
I loved the Spielberg version, but hated the screeching girl and Tim Robbin’s character. The aliens were terrifying.
US military industrial complex gave the immigrant martians (dont call them invading aliens) infected blankets.
Exactly. “Undocumented Martians”.
How many times can they remake or reboot established stories?
Another favorite movie of mine is “The Day of the Triffids,” which has been done a couple of times as mini-series. It’s been 10 years since the last version. Also, Mark Gattiss, and Steve Moffat (Sherlock series) are creating a 3-Part Dracula mini-series.
Didn’t someone turn this book into a movie already?
I’d rather they took some other classics and turned them into movies. How about Rendezvous with Rama, or Ringworld, or Red Thunder (John Varley)? Those would all be fantastic movies.
I own the 1953 version, which is the best, IMO. Sylvia van Buren is a fox!
They certainly wouldnt remake the 1953 Gene Barry version, way too much God in that one.
Well (from the example of theatrical plays) probably thousands of years. How long since Oedipus was penned?
First contact protocols? Nah, who needs that...
They cast Demelza in the new one. Where’s Poldark?!
I’ll be amazed if this airs before October 31.
A really good version of the Martians landing in New Jersey.
Narrated by Orson Welles, 1938 Halloween night.
Stop the noise . Turn down you lights. and
use your mind’s eye to imagine the scenes as you listen.

One that I have always wanted to see as a movie would be “Code of the Lifemaker”..........
