Have a holly, jolly six-figure Christmas.

As the countdown to the holiday season begins, Tiffany & Co. is offering branded advent calendars — with a steep price tag. Each Tiffany-blue, 24-day calendar will set you back $112,000.

The luxury jewelry retailer released four exclusive “Ultimate Advent Calendars” that will include 24 jewelry items, ranging from the usual Tiffany earrings and bracelets, to more unique jewelry items from Tiffany’s “Everyday Objects” collection. You’ll find tucked inside items like a sterling silver harmonica and clothespin.

The nearly five-foot tall displays are designed to replicate Tiffany’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue, according to the company’s website.

Who knew the true meaning of Christmas is a piece of expensive jewelry every day?

I’d rather take several really nice vacations with that.

Or buy half a house cause in my economy, that kind of money is the down payment, not a mortgage payment.

I’ll bet you Tiffany’s has a solid silver and gold Pizza that will set you back quite a bit.

When you have pretty much unlimited funds, there will always be companies that will provide insanely expensife “one-off” items.

I have no problem with it. It keeps people employed.

I have a billionaire brother in law. The captain of one of his yachts makes a six figure income. He even has a full fire department on his private ranch. I was with him one day and he and I worked on trying to get his Peterbuilt fire engine started. It was having a fuel problem.

Rich people don’t have money. Rich people just see a lot more money pass through their control than the rest of us. Of course, when it does pass through, they end up with nice stuff (that people are paid to produce) and meals that beat a big mac.

About 30 years ago, a real estate developer friend of mine came back from a trip to Europe, and his wife showed me her beautiful $3,000 purse that they got there. Afterward I told him, “Geeze. You could have gotten a nice home theater for that much!” His response was that it was worth it because she really liked the purse.

It took me years to understand, and I finally found a way to explain it to people:

For the very rich, look at the price of all items you can buy and remove two or three zeroes from the price. So a $3,000 purse becomes $3 or $30.

So, would you rather have a true and rare designer purse for $3, or an off the shelf purse for three cents?

That’s what’s happening here.

I have 81K left on my mortgage. I’d love to have the kind of money these people do to drop it on a short lived gimmick.

Are you at least a millionaire thanks to him? I know if I was a billionaire, my siblings house would be paid off at least.

Nope. He doesn’t give us stuff (and we don’t ask). However, we spent a week on his six suite yacht in Alaska and he flew us down to Cabo in his Cessna citation (10 passenger jet). I even got to sit in the copilot’s seat.

He took us halibut fishing on his “crab boat” and we pulled up several gallons of tiger shrimp in a few spots. He even flew us via bush plane to the boat (anchored in one of the coves near Juneau).

But when we went to restaurants in Cabo, we all paid for our own meals.

He and my sister are strong Christians. They share their stuff like crazy. In fact, it can be quite stressful using your boat almost like a vacation cruise for friends. But they don’t buy stuff for any of us. In fact, at Christmas, I noticed once that one of his sons got a shirt for Christmas.

All that being said, his 10 year old daughter was very good at flying his STOL plane.

People like you and me tend to look at them the way people living in cardboard boxes in Africa may look at us, I think.

It’s all relative, once you have food in your mouth, a shirt on your back and a roof over your head.

I have a fake facebook account where I graduated from high school from a large New Jersey high school. I accept every friend request, but never post. I have many hundreds of friends, almost all of them in africa. Their personal posts are fascinating. Their pictures of things they are proud of are revealing of the culture there. They don’t have what we have. their cars are a lot junkier, but they still try to fix them up and are proud of them.

I have to put their comments in google translate. Most of them are in Swahili.

And yes, the comments are interesting too.

Fact is, their culture is very different then ours, as is their language. Yet, they are very similar in a LOT of ways, from a purely human perspective.

I think the same is true with the rich and super rich - with the exception of some of those that were simply given their wealth. That is never good for a person.

I have yet to have a high marked up $$$ meal that beats a burger from the drive thru that people are paid to produce. Simple filling fast meal when I’m hungry that I don’t have to get dressed for, no waiting forever to be served and waiting for the check and no obligatory tip to an obnoxious waiter.

I refuse to own a purse that costs more than the $$$ it’ll ever see. Originally mine cost a few more zeros than the $2 I paid for it at the church rummage sale. Brand new, leather, low numbered limited edition, designer, etc. which looks just like every other off the shelf $20 Walmart purse.
Come on, a purse is a purse. Granted some are plastic and some are leather but if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. Would love to meet the original purchaser but they’d never understand they flushed down the toilet what others pay on their mortgage.
