Latinos don’t like the woke term ‘Latinx’
Hot Air ^ | November 1, 2019 | John Sexton

Have you seen this term floating around? Latinx is supposed to be a gender-neutral version of Latino/Latina. It’s supposedly more inclusive because it doesn’t separate people into the now forbidden binary categories of men or women, so it has been championed by the woke left. But it turns out Latinos/Hispanics don’t really like it very much. A survey carried out by progressive data analysts found that only 2 percent of Hispanic people actually prefer that term:

I would not appreciate violence being done to my language too. People tried to simplify English spelling too, for example, socks would become sox. Except for sports teams that movement was a failure. Funny how the Left talks about respecting people's cultures yet they want to change the fundamental masculine/feminine nature of the Romance languages.

Latin languages have very clear gender-specific definite and indefinite articles, nouns and adjectives.

For example, you can’t change la mesa into lx mesx.

It’s not only unpronounceable, it’s STUPID.

Russian even has a gender-specific past tense, let alone the patronymic of every person’s name.

And its PATROnymic. Good luck trying to change THAT.

Roughly speaking Latino/a seems to be used in the western part of the country, Hispanic in the eastern part (including Texas). One reason some people prefer “Latino/a” is because it is authentically Spanish.

By inventing “Latinx” woke Anglos have re-colonized the demographic language. Classic,

Here is a fairly thorough list of the changes the gay/trans lobby would like to impose on the English language.

Imagine William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Geoffrey Chaucer, George Eliot (which was the pen name of Mary Ann Evans), George Orwell (also a pen name, of Eric Blair), Wordsworth, Kipling, Yeats... Let's remake our entire history of literature to appease a bunch of fairies.

“It’s a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. Of course, the great wastage is in the verbs and adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well. It isn’t only the synonyms; there are also the antonyms. After all, what justification is there for a word, which is simply the opposite of some other word? A word contains its opposite in itself. Take ‘good,’ for instance. If you have a word like ‘good,’ what need is there for a word like ‘bad’? ‘Ungood’ will do just as well — better, because it’s an exact opposite, which the other is not. Or again, if you want a stronger version of ‘good,’ what sense is there in having a whole string of vague useless words like ‘excellent’ and ‘splendid’ and all the rest of them? ‘Plusgood’ covers the meaning or ‘doubleplusgood’ if you want something stronger still. Of course we use those forms already, but in the final version of Newspeak there’ll be nothing else. In the end the whole notion of goodness and badness will be covered by only six words – in reality, only one word. Don’t you see the beauty of that, Winston? It was B.B.’s idea originally, of course.” […]

“Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten. Already, in the Eleventh Edition, we’re not far from that point. But the process will still be continuing long after you and I are dead. Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller. Even now, of course, there’s no reason or excuse for committing thoughtcrime. It’s merely a question of self-discipline, reality control. But in the end there won’t be any need even for that. The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect. Newspeak is Ingsoc and Ingsoc is Newspeak.” …

I thought the “X” was pronounced differently in Spanish than it is in English. Isn’t it pronounced like a “Z”? So, pronouncing it with a hard x sound is Angloising it.

Easier to pronounce it in Pig-Latin, though.

If someone wants to be called Latinx, that is fine, but the label should not be forced upon all Latinos.

and all people that want to stay in touch with reality

What they like or dislike has nothing to do with it. What’s important is being politically correct. Indians (feather, not dot) generally have no problem with the word ‘Indian’ or for that matter sports teams that carry the name or a variation of it. Doesn’t matter. The logically absurd ‘Native American’ must be used.

Excuses you, Latinxs, white liberals are outraged on your behalf.

You will let them inflict whatever agenda items they wish in order to alleviate the outrage that you should be feeling.

Probably. But it will be the loud drunk uncle at the Christmas party who won’t shut up 2%. And the old media will continuously parrot him as spokes-it for all Hispanics.
