The paper, which was published in JAMA, examined the circulatory changes that took place in 11 different space travelers that spent time aboard the International Space Station. It found that while blood flow was perfectly normal when the scientists left Earth, dramatic changes had already begun by their 50th day in space.
In particular, circulation changes through the head and brain raised some serious concerns. In seven of the space travelers, blood flowing from the head down to the rest of the body showed signs of stagnation and, in some cases, even reversal. On Earth, gravity aids in draining blood from the head and ensuring a steady flow. In space, that assistance just isnt there, and slow-moving or stagnant blood can cause clotting. In fact, two of the crew members were found to have clots or partial clots in their left internal jugular vein. Blood clotting is incredibly dangerous when it happens within the body, and if a clot were to form and then travel to the lungs it could create a pulmonary embolism, which is a potentially fatal condition that requires immediate treatment.
Artificial gravity systems could provide a solution, but the technology is still in its infancy and theres obviously no spacecraft thats been designed with these in mind. That may change in the future, but its abundantly clear that a solution is needed before a crewed trip to Mars can even be realistically considere

“Artificial gravity systems could provide a solution, but the technology is still in its infancy”
I would argue that it has been conceived, but not delivered.

Then it’s settled. Forget the spacecraft and go with teleportation.
Does that mean we get younger in space?
We got older when the blood flowed one way. So we should get younger when it flows the opposite way- that’s just common sense LOL!...
I wish...
I'm still trying to come up with a test to prove that you are not killed and a duplicate takes your place on the other end who thinks it is you.
If they ever come up with teleportation, of course.
I’m only 20-something and already not liking gravity.
This reminds me of the time my house was robbed. Some thief took every stick of furniture, every book, all of the silverware . . in fact everything I physically owned and replaced it with identical belongings in identical condition. Of course I could see the diabolical thinking behind such an act. I could never go to the authorities with this theft. They simply wouldn’t believe me. So here I sit with all of this fraudulent belongings and nothing I can do about it.
Okay, Mr Wright. May I call you Steven?
Are you the original TangoLimaSierra or have you been teleported a few times too many?
Earth creatures are optimized for Earth. Extended life off of Earth is detrimental to the organism. No surprise.
Your screen name is validated by your story. Love your humor.
No way of knowing.
Exactly!!! It’s about time to stop this nonsense that we are eventually leaving the planet to live elsewhere. It really is waaaaay overdue.
The Project Orion ship solved that problem in 1964.
Think that’s bad? Somebody stole my car stereo and replaced it will a device that looks exactly the same but only plays commercials.
