Note, I said ‘rainforests’ not ‘the current Amazon rainforest’. Rainforests have been around and come and gone for a very long time. For example a gigantic one existed across what roughly corresponded to America and Europe and collapsed in the Carboniferous long before the dinosaurs reigned. If we’re going to be pedantic than we should get it right.

My point was that the Twitterati freaking out and blaming Bolsonaro is that rainforests have been coming and going and burning for millions of years which is absolutely true and relevant to the posted topic.

Well well - turns out these fires were started by arsonists selling fire photos to the World Wildlife Federation!
