She names some of my favorite stars although I disagree about boring drag artists stuck in the 1940s or Liza Minnelli-ville. Having just rewatched Klute again I must agree about Fondas great performance. The only really great performance she ever gave. Iconic hairstyle and gorgeous costuming as well.
Bull, I liked Jane in the really early days of her career before Left Wing politics took her over. She had some good film roles. When she got involved with Tom Hayden it pretty much ruined her. At this point I can’t stand to watch her in anything passed the 1960’s when she still the movie ingenue.
That sounded like something that would make him more appealing. LOL. Had to look it up. Oops. He’s still an eyeful.
But on the other hand, not all of Hollywood’s leading men of the Golden Age were “good looking” either. For example, Fred Astaire was not, and neither was Humphrey Bogart, but they had something indefinable that transcended simple good looks.
In 10 years Millie Bobbie Brown will join the list of the truly memorable.
Okay, if we are going to talk about "costumes", I would like to go to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", a show that runs on Amazon Prime. Hubby and I decided to rewatch Season 2, since Season 3 is dropping today. I was glad I did, the story is great, the acting is great (Tony Shaloub is a marvel); but, what I was able to notice on this second viewing is that the costumes (the dresses) that the actress playing Midge Maisel wears were just lovely. They accented her figure, they were feminine and classy. I commented on this to hubby and he said, "yeah, I have always liked 50's fashion".
I didn’t see any more skin on any of the clips or previews than I would have in a Miss America 40 years ago, but that’s a*WOMAN* and way sexier than any porn on the internet.
Watch Period of Adjustment and get back with me, lol.
Cultural commentary is Camille’s forte.
Saw it in 1962 when I was 7.
Camille is correct. Before, women were seen as having power in their sexuality. Today, women are supposed to be victims, without any power of their own.
I don't know how old you mean by "The old sex symbols" but Marylin Monroe posed fully nude for Playboy Magazine's centerfold in 1953. That's pretty old by most standards.
He is! And an excellent actor!
Hard to believe she was 30 then.
Puts most 20 year olds to shame.
I want to know where the factory is that makes women like that. It’s definitely not in my neighborhood. :-D
Shes still relevant, intelligent and very interesting. I recently listened to Dennis Prager interview her (Oct 8, 2019) on this radio show. Things she said may surprise you. Shes very blunt and unafraid to answer tough questions.

Actually she DIDN'T pose for Playboy. Hefner bought 4 year old photos for $500 and published them.
It nearly wrecked her carreer. But she owned up to them. Interesting read here.
I liked the costumes in Mrs. Maisel, and the parents, but Rachel Brosnahan who plays Midge is just not a natural comedian.
The feminist rants and the obscenity are of our time, not the sixties. No woman would have been allowed to play that “blue” back then. Why not show us a much subtler naughty humor, and an awakening feminist consciousness, not the thing full-blown?
