Because Pete Townshend actually was an anti-pedophile activist for decades and was one of the people after Jimmy Seville. It is quite plausible that powerful parliamentarians linked with Seville would hire someone to hack Townsend’s computer.

If his computer was compromised (with a virus) other systems could download porn through his computer. It would use his IP address but generally the content itself never ends up on the PC.
But to get that kind of infection is to practice shoddy computer habits to begin with.

Nah - if he was using internet explorer it’s possible to get a server installed on your PC through infected ads. (Though you generally have to be going to questionable websites to get that level of infection to begin with)
Once the server is there they can order your PC to pull down whatever they want.
Or open WiFi.

My son works in IT for a university. They have an acronym for useless people (professors, usually) who call up with a computer problem “PICNIC”. “Problem In Chair Not In Computer”. LOL!
This has been a known issue for ten years. And he may not even have been targeted per se except as just another virus infection.

If it was done in the open, then I would be inclined to believe him. That’s just too easy to pick up, and a Nobel Laureate would (hopefully) be smart enough to use Tor. It is possible that someone could have compromised his wifi. I would like to know what brought this on. How does he know that someone is DLing kiddie porn through his router?
