'Like sending bees to war': the deadly truth behind your almond-milk obsession
The Guardian ^ | Jan 2020 | Annette McGivney

. By October, 150 of Arp’s hives had been wiped out by mites, 12% of his inventory in just a few months. “My yard is currently filled with stacks of empty bee boxes that used to contain healthy hives,” he says.

On top of the threat of pesticides, almond pollination is uniquely demanding for bees because colonies are aroused from winter dormancy about one to two months earlier than is natural. The sheer quantity of hives required far exceeds that of other crops – apples, America’s second-largest pollination crop, use only one-tenth the number of bees. And the bees are concentrated in one geographic region at the same time, exponentially increasing the risk of spreading sickness.

“Bees are exposed to all kinds of diseases in California,” says Arp. “There can be hundreds of thousands of hives from multiple beekeepers in one staging area. It is like letting your bees go into a singles bar and then they have unprotected sex.”

I cannot deal with almonds, they make my stomach hurt. I like pecans and I use rice milk.

Bee shortage is a hoax from lying environmentalists.

I don’t eat almonds because of their impact on bees.

Beekeepers have known this for years.

Driving on I5 south of Sacramento...all the way to Bakersfield...in March - April you have to sweep bees off your windshield with a broom.

Almonds are an environmentally demanding crop. Lot’s of bees, lots of water and lots of nutrients.

The SMART farmers are making a shift to olives.

Still a lucrative crop, but far less inputs.

At least they are admitting mites are causing the bee problems, not “chemicals.”

“Beekeepers have known this for years.”

Just rousting them out in late February stresses them substantially.

Then your hives have to intermix with hundreds of others across vast tracts of trees.

It’s pretty freakish to see all these almond trees in full bloom in early February out here. It’s still cold and the bees can’t always get their little engines running. Just a numbers game though. It always gets done. Heavy rain or a frost could do some damage to the delicate blossoms but the bees do their job.

They only call it “Almond Milk” because if they called it “Nut Juice” nobody would buy it.

Yes, the Guardian

...

They just have to mention the climate change scam, but then place all the blame on pesticides and parasites.

Do they make cheese from almond milk?

Kind of, sort of???
Vegan cheese may not be cheese...

“I have worked mainly in the Canadian cheese industry for close to thirty years, in addition to two master’s degree in the dairy/food science.

I am not trying to project Mr. know it all. However, I believe I can say a few words on this topic.

First of all, no product can be called Cheese unless it is made milk, which is well defined: Milk is the secretion of the mammary gland of a mammal.
And once again even if someone uses Milk to make cheese and deflects from the accepted methodology or adds certain additives it cannot be called Cheese, it may be called Cheese Product.
Once you know the chemistry of coagulation either by enzymes or acid, all these liquid concoctions such as Almond/Soy, do not have casein milk protein which is the main ingredient to react and form a curd. Milk Sugar lactose is an essential part of fermentation by the culture.”

Cartelfornia - the turd world.

I usually try to avoid Cartelfornia products, just like I try to avoid China products.
