Michalove said his crew stayed close to shore on Wednesday because of the rough seas. Typically, the crew ventures several miles off shore to a secret spot where Michalove hooked a 3,500-pound great white he called a “submarine with a tail,” along with several others. This time, they were less than a mile from the shores of Hilton Head Island on Michalove’s 26-foot boat when they encountered the great white monster.SNIP…
He’s estimated there are around 1,000 great whites off the South Carolina coast every winter. Because great whites only are here in the winter time, South Carolina hasn’t had any great white shark attacks on record. SNIP...

Plenty of people track white sharks on Ocsearch and sharktivity and other programs.
I remember one shark off Africa that came ashore an went town to town and it was because the shark was caught, the people put it in a truck and drove it around to several African villages for people to view. -Tom

I will take his estimation (a fisherman on the water) over the so called fishery scientists who get it wrong in every instance.
Of course thats their job- shut down American production,kill American industry then fill market demand with imports mostly from communist countries.

I saw a little 5 year old kid bring in an 8 lb rainbow trout on one of those snoopy poles. That fish had no problem taking the Woodstock bobber under while it was bobbing around just a few feet off the river’s edge.
The successful proliferation of white sharks since 1997 is amazing to me.
They have made an incredible comeback here on the East Coast.
This of course is helped along by the protection of seals also.
Right now I would say we have many more white sharks , than makos in our Mass. waters during the summer.
A white shark here would be a rarity 20 years ago. Not today. - Tom
