This former UC Berkeley philosophy professor is, evidently, an atheist, who thinks life is pointless, that there is nothing after death, yet he is afraid to die, even at 97.

Sad.

And what lies ahead?

You were born into this life.

Where on Earth has something only happened once?

For a philosopher, he appears not to know the most important aspect of his life and being - that God is his hope and salvation. But God appears absent from his life. Not once in this account did he mention his Creator. Why is he not reading and studying the greatest book ever written to derive strength and understanding in his time of need? This documentary was very heartbreaking to observe someone with his intellect, yet so empty and lacking in faith.

His mobility is amazing for a person his age. He needed a pedicure. My mom used to take my dad to the nail salon, where a nice Vietnamese man would do his nails.

The good news is that if you suffer from seizures, they come on so fast that you are here one second and gone the next.

Hmmmm.....are you actually AROUND anyone who suffers from seizures?
My son has suffered for 30 years from uncontrolled epilepsy......He's isn't "Here one second and gone the next", he's here suffering 87 cluster seizures at one time, or a huge grand Mal, or every type in between..

I suffer from seizures. It is no fun. One minute I’m there and the next minute I’m not. When I come around I look up and the EMTs are there. They try to put me on a gurney and take me to the hospital. I’ve been to the hospital so many times that I REFUSE now. My prayers offered up for your son! God bless him!

As long as you're prepared for the exit interview.

I see what you are saying, but it is not biblical.

The unsaved, when they die, awaken immediately in Hell, in torments. See Luke 16:22ff where Jesus describes the experiences of the beggar Lazarus and the rich man.

Quite possibly you are referring to the Great White Throne of judgment. This is not an "exit interview" and occurs much later, when God will cast death and Hell into the Lake of Fire and create a new Heaven and Earth. This is described at the end of Rev 20 and beginning of Rev 21.

Not literally true. This was an allegory to make a point. The Bible states the condition of the dead as a sleep. No punishment until the judgement. God is just.

“That about sums it up- Everyone is brave till reality sinks in- till then we think we’re invulnerable, immune to the bad things in life- then we get cancer, or ms, or liver disease, or whatever it might be, and their whole perspective changes as they face death- for most anyways- some remain defiant til l the end- refusing to even consider what lies ahead-”

That may be true for some, but certainly NOT ALL.

I watched about 20 minutes of the story and it made me sick to my stomach. I finally turned it off when the poor guy said something to the effect, “when you die, it is all over, nothing to feel — you’re just gone.” What a load of crap. Here is a so-called educated man that has spent his life writing books and teaching at the college level and not one single word about the greatest book on the face of the planet that will give him hope — the Bible.
It is pretty obvious he is not a believer in a God that created the universe and all that is in it and who sent us Jesus Christ just to let us know. It blows my mind how anyone who knows anything about science, the human body, and the universe can believe this was not created by an “intelligent designer.” Many of us call that designer God.

Regarding, your perspective changing when you face death. We just disagree. At age 69 (six years ago) I was diagnosed with two life-threatening diseases — cancer and kidney failure. No panic on my end. I had faith that with the help of God and modern medicine I would make it. I also got things between me and God right, just in case. I am not afraid of death — at all. I know and believe it is not the end — but the beginning. Furthermore, that experience lifted a huge load off of my back. I stopped sweating the small stuff and began living every day as though it could be my last. WOW! It was like wiping the slate clean. Don’t get me wrong, I still lead a normal busy life, but I no longer obsess about the small stuff — that in the end does not matter when you breathe your final breath here on this planet.

Finally, what is the big deal about death? Every person who has been alive on this planet has died sooner or later. Every single one. So, it is quite normal. Learn to accept it — not live in fear.

But the main reason not to fear death is our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.

[[That may be true for some, but certainly NOT ALL.]]

That’s why i included the following at the end of what i said:

“some remain defiant til l the end- refusing to even consider what lies ahead-”

[[Regarding, your perspective changing when you face death. We just disagree.]]

Again, not everyone experiences fear- many do however- facing the prospect of death is a very sobering thing- peopel odn’t htink about dying- thinking they are invulnerable to disease, or acciddents or whatever- then when it happens- wham- they are forced ot think about it-

[[Finally, what is the big deal about death?]]

Really? Eternity in hell is a very sobering thing to face for the unsaved- AND, folks who are saved don’t always have peace that they are truly saved- thinking perhaps they ‘weren’t serious enough’ when they professed to be saved- etc- There are no do overs- Death is final in the sense that you no longer have a chance to be saved- Believe me, many Christians are fearful they didn’t ‘do it right’ when they got saved- This is a tool that Satan uses to muck with the minds of Christians=- making them fearful-

I’m glad you have peace- but recognize that not everyone does-

don’t understand your question- what specifically are you questioning about what i said?

What leis ahead? Eternity, in one place or the other-

“I’m glad you have peace- but recognize that not everyone does-”

Well, everyone should accept it and even plan for it — ‘cause “it is inevitable” and it will happen. Putting your head in the sand will not make it go away. It is quite a liberating thing and if you believe in a God above and the wonderful words in the Bible, many written almost 3000 years ago and still true to this day, one should understand and work to accept it. It will make your life much easier while you are here.

[[ Putting your head in the sand will not make it go away.]]

Wondering about eternity isn’t putting one’s head in the sand- infact it’s just the opposite- Again- Satan can and does cause fear in even solid Christians- That’s His primary objective- to cause doubt- not everyone has the Christian maturity to not succumb to that and fear eternity thinking perhaps they ‘did something wrong’ regarding salvation- That isn’t sticking one’s head in the sand at all- That is normal doubt and wonder-

Again- you’ve found peace- and that’s great- but telling people to ‘just believe and everything will be fine’ doesn’t solve the issue- and really is an insult to struggling
Christians- Many truly try to believe, but Satan still manages to shake them about death because there are no do overs-

EVERYTHING you see around with your own eyes does NOT live eternal: dogs, trees, grass, people, bushes. But they all do have a recurring lifecycle.

Suddenly you will ignore your own eyes, after 1000s of examples of lifecycle, and say things live forever.

Hmmm.

Odds are near certain I will live again in other lifecycles, just as you & I are alive in this one.

Do you believe your OWN EYES?

Pain is bad, yes, like death.

It is also very happy & enlightening that just like this life right now, you will experience life again.

After all, you cannot deny you are living this one.

Verrrry Positive thing.
