Finding ‘help’ may be almost impossible. Young lady took over care of her nephew who was autistic, eventually took him to the ER because she feared for the safety of her 3 year old child he started to become abusive towards. ER kept him for 10 days because no one would take him. He is not a candidate for many facilities because he cannot participate in group, there is no cure and facilities want to ‘fix’ them and send them home.

Then this autistic man goes to a group home who bring him back to the ER because the other members in the group home are afraid of him. They refuse to take him back, so he sits for days in ER again, last I knew he went to a ‘nursing’ home.

Point is, getting ‘help’ is not easy. One of the nurses even commented that they would be for abortion in these cases if the parents knew what they were getting into. He said bring the parents to the ER and see what type of person they become when they are grown. There’s just no place for them. It’s very sad.

Her job? Jobs are paid positions, you fool. But thank you for admitting that her only other choice was to turn them over to the state, where they could end up in some place like Willowbrook, being "cared for" by strangers who might do who-knows-what to them.

The very fact that she tried to kill herself along with them tells me she was not just trying to get rid of them so she could enjoy life again. She intended to die along with them, probably feeling that all three of them were better off dead. That's a tragedy, and you are raging yourself into apoplexy because she is getting a few sympathetic words on the internet.

But since you just can't stand the idea that someone, somewhere feels sorry for her, let me rub it in. I FEEL SORRY FOR HER! And there's nothing you can do about it.

We have searched high and low for the “why”. We’ve done some crazy sounding stuff. Gluten free. High protein. Zero lactose. Every “home remedy” we see. Like you we thought all was well up until it wasn’t. She said bye bye and mama up until about a year old.

Then a door closed. Like you, I know other people have more challenges than she does and we do.

She is ours and we love her. I am sure you feel the same.

I’m sure there were kids back then who had autism. Some of them probably drowned or fell in the fire. No doubt some were kept locked or chained in their homes, some were sent to insane asylums, some were allowed to wander around. Few probably spent much time in school -— most teachers were not equipped to deal with outrageous behavior, if a willow switch wouldn’t fix it. But , yes, there are either a lot more, or we’re just being made more aware of it. Besides, I’m 68 years old, and we didn’t have mainstreaming when I went to school. Kids who would’ve had autism or other such problems went to special schools. If I recall, there was one public school in town for kids with special needs. Our town was about 100,000 in population.

So that means murder is ok.
Got it.
We all have problems; some more than
others. But no excuse for murder.
She needs to fry.

If I was an Arizona grandmother with two very difficult children your list would have me beating my brains against a wall in frustration about the inadequacy. Oh, goodie, a safety plan booklet. 2 window locks. A link to more websites.

Even if I searched “Arizona autism respite” and got more specific agencies it would be

Is the agency still operating?
how soon can they act?
do they have people available?
do I trust those people?
can I pay for it? is there state funding? when can that get started?
how many hours can they give me?

Yes, she should have looked for help. I expect she did. Bureaucracy is harder to navigate when you are exhausted and frightened and at your wits’ end.

I have been at an autism support group where one woman said something like when she was old, she was going to overdose herself and her son and just go to sleep together. Maybe she will, maybe she won’t, but we all understood why she said it.

There are a few really good residential institutions out there. Most autistic people who move out of their family’s house end up in a group home staffed by uneducated, low-wage immigrants. Some of the staff are good people, but how would you know? Even if there are day programs, it looks like a barren, dull, linoleum kind of life. All hard surfaces and fluorescent lighting, easy to clean, institutional without the resources of an institution.

Taking care of your family can be a “job”. If you dont like my choice of word, I will replace it with “responsibility.”

If she can’t do it she needs to find people that can. Not murder them.

I have yet to hear an ounce of sympathy from you or anyone else here for the two grandsons she murdered.

And none of the family that knew she was having trouble helped her out. So much for getting help from the logical place. she complained to them but no one stepped up?

And many people have made it look like they were trying to commit suicide. And lots of husbands and wives have murdered their spouse and then made it appear like they were attacked by ‘someone’. I don’t put anything past anyone, not without a thorough investigation.

I’m not giving you bile. As far as the boys are concerned, they’re with the LORD, and no longer suffering from autism. Like king David, there is nothing to weep about for them. As he said, “I can go to the child (when HE dies,) but the child cannot return to me”.And I’m NOT saying death is the answer for parents OR kids with autism, but they’re gone and cannot come back. Relatives will, of course, grieve, but also know they are at peace. If autistic kids can get specialized help early, they can often become productive adults, or at least, able to live at home.

Have you ever been to court because your nine year old has diaper rash?

Has your son ever been arrested for child neglect because his child has snarls in their hair?

Do you get evil looks because a child won’t keep their shoes on in a grocery store.

Do you ever have to stay awake 36 hours and then go to work?

Np it is not a reason to murder but it sure is a reason for empathy.

Really a disappointing reply and thread in general. If this is the best FR has to offer on this, the site has changed much for the worse in the 22+ years I’ve been here.

Just go to the article and look at her picture. see the love coming out of the face of this “grandma”.

More sympathy for a female murderer than the two boys who’s lives she ended. And special needs boys on top of it. Everyone stepping up to make excuses for her. Not one person expressing any sympathy for the murdered kids.

This has become a very sick place.

Many parents in their 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s who have special needs children use respite care.

In this case, the twin boys were in a public school program, so the grandmother didn’t have them all day every day.

No doubt she was overwhelmed. Her own daughter had committed suicide. Now this woman was left to care for two special needs children.

That doesn’t change the fact that she committed murder. Now two young boys who lost their mother to suicide have been murdered by their grandmother. So sad.

I was beaten by my dad when I was
a young girl.
It’s good to know I have an excuse
for murder.
A friend has a child with cerebral palsy.
Let the murders begin!!

The first page in this thread is
nothing but “she had it hard with
those kids...nobody understands...
such a hard life...” bullshit.
Everybody has it hard. Nobody has
an excuse for murder.
She needs to fry.
There’s a difference between empathy &
coddling a murderer.
But hysterical women are blind to
that fact.

What i find remarkable is that not a single one of you on this thread expressed any kind of sympathy or sorrow for the two grandsons she murdered.

Maybe you should read the other posts. In the post right before yours, I expressed sadness for the children. Other posters here did the same.

Hey, I agree she should have just had them committed, if that was an option. I don't honestly know if you can just take them to a judge and say "I can't do this, take them away," but if she could have, she should have... for her own sake.

As for sympathy for the autistic boys, well... I've seen what severely autistic kids are like. They're almost demonic. It's hard to relate to them at all, and I don't see what future she took from them. My sympathy is for her. None of your self-righteous comments make a dent in it. But she's going to prison, so your vicious little self ought to be happy.
