City Of Dallas Shuts Down Business Of Man Who Called Cops Over 100 Times In 20 Months To Deal With Criminals Near His Car Wash

Let's talk about nuisance abatement laws. These are laws cities can use to shut down businesses that appear to draw more than their fair share of the criminal element.

If you're a fan of asset forfeiture, you'll love nuisance laws. By abdicating their law enforcement responsibilities, cities can have their lower cost cake and eat your property too. It's win-win for cities, who love to use laws like this to effectively seize property from citizens who have the misfortune to operate legitimate businesses in high crime areas.

Here's how it works in Dallas, Texas. The city says business owners must pay for their own security devices and personnel to keep their businesses free of criminals. No business will be compensated for these additional costs. All cops need to do is throw a couple of placards at the business and the city takes it from there. Criminal activity in the area is now the responsibility of businesses in the area. Can't get criminals to get off your property? Too bad. It's the city's property now.

Totally avoidable. Unfortunately for the owner. All he had to do is play that song “All I want for Christmas is a Hippo” or whatever the title actually is, over and over again. At loud volume. They would have moved on promptly.

The city of Rochester New York has had these laws since the 90s. Most nightclubs that cater to minorities have been shut down in a blink of an eye.
The rental vacancy rate in residential areas is approximately 6% and will grow with the new militantly Pro tenant laws instituted in 2019 Statewide

Some businesses in Upstate New York have resorted to blasting classical music from their speakers to keep the riffraff away

Funny how nuisance abatement laws are prevalent only in blue areas.

Sounds like a good bait location for a boom in warrant checks and arrests. I would think they might like that aspect.

I have had my car broken into twice in Dallas hotel parking lots. Locks punched out once and side window smashed the other. Cops dont bother to come out.

Seems the the cops are criminally negligent, and the negligent criminal.

I drive past that place on MLK often as I go to the place where I volunteer. I had noticed the fencing around the car wash. It’s within a couple of blocks of some rows of businesses and a classic old theater that they’re trying to renovate. Grand old houses are on the other side of the street, kept well but put to other uses, plus a small mosque. Most have big signs that read Voting is Power.

Right after that, I drive down a nearby street where bums and vagrants spend their days walking down one street from a place that serves them breakfast to a place that gives out food for lunch. Those are some of the most wasted lives I can imagine.

New lofts and fancy townhouses are being built in that latter area, and the new people are called urban pioneers. Wow, are they brave.

The “It’s a small world” song from Disney world would have the same effect.

Why not just offer freebies that the police would be attracted to?

Lack of compromise and extremism is a big problem in this country. It always seems to be all or none. Like this situation, car washes are known hangout territories for gangs. Sounds like good bait to round up gangsters, yet they would close it instead. I would think it would be a win win situation.

Knew it’d be south Dallas. Can’t get much more zeroed in on the criminal element than Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in any town.

This action by Dallas is not surprising.

This was on the news last night. A volunteer fireman used a jaws of life to break into the cash machine at a carwash. The video is something.

When I was a kid we used to cruise the car washes. We would go by slow, turn off the key, punch the throttle once and turn the key back on. It would cause a very loud backfire and make all the gangsters hit the ground on their bellies. Worked every time. They stopped coming around because it made them too nervous and paranoid. lol
