That was more likely Barrack not wanting to cross big Michelle on having his Mother in Law live in the White House and travel with them.

found on snopes about clintons.

Lloyd Grove reported in the Washington Post:

It is a standard arrangement that the Secret Service provide payment to homeowners for space used by the agency in such situations. The Clintons did not take it upon themselves to “charge the Secret Service rent.”

The amount provided is based on a government formula, not set by the homeowner, and in the Clintons’ case this amount was $1,100. (Note that this figure was not chosen by the Clintons, and it was well short of their monthly mortgage payment.)

Most important, although regulations call for the payment of this amount, the Clintons did not in fact accept any money from the Secret Service.

I don't see a problem here. In fact, it might be more problematic if his properties didn't charge for services.

Consider, as President is he supposed to keep his business dealings at arms length so that there isn't even the appearance that he is profiting. Heck, didn't the 'rats try to pursue an Emoluments clause violation or some such at one point or several times? Hey 'rats, you can't have it both ways.

Put yourself in the position of the manager running these properties - yes, for a profit. Those are valuable rooms or cottages etc. If you take them out of play, that costs that business real money. It doesn't matter if the President is actually there or not. If the Secret Service is there doing pre-visit or post-visit work, that property is unavailable to rent to other paying customers.

"...other presidents who allowed the Secret Service to use their properties, including both George Bushes and Bill Clinton, didn’t charge them.

Sounds nice, but let me guess, these were personal properties, houses, ranches, etc. - not part of a commercial enterprise.

And CHEAP at that!

“Of course, the “easiest” way to visit Mar-a-Lago is to become a member. Membership has numerous benefits, such as the use of the formal and casual dining areas, the Trump Spa and Salon, the pool, the Beach Club, the fitness center, and gorgeous state-of-the-art suites, just to name a few. But it will cost you a fortune: A $200,000 initiation fee to be exact, plus $15,000 in annual dues. Oh, and if you’d like to spend the night, you’ll have to pay an extra $2,000.”

List of Donations

As we previously reported, U.S. President Donald Trump did not donate his entire salary for the purpose of rebuilding military cemeteries.

However, Trump has repeatedly followed up on his pledge to donate his presidential salary. The following list documents what government projects or departments have been chosen to benefit from Trump’s quarterly paychecks so far:

Quarter/Year Recipient Earmark
Q1 2017 Dept. of the Interior National Park Service maintenance of a Civil War site
Q2 2017 Dept. of Education A science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) camp for children
Q3 2017 Dept. of Health and Human Services Public awareness campaign about opioid addiction
Q4 2017 Dept. of Transportation Infrastructure grant program
Q1 2018 Dept. of Veterans Affairs Caregiver programs
Q2 2018 U.S. Small Business Administration “Emerging Leaders” program
Q3 2018 National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Not yet announced

Remember these are not Trumps properties to do what he wishes. There are investors in each. Trump manages them. His family is also part of the ownership group as well. But he is not running the family business anymore. The democrats saw to that. And the secret service is not renting a room for the night permanently. They have moved in. The deal with the secret service was likely a normal government deal. Clinton had no place as President. And Bush had a ranch in the middle of nowhere with a barn type building the secret service took over. They bought their own food.

Wonder why The Atlantic didn't have any problem with Michele Obama going off to visit foreign countries with an 80 person entourage, renting entire hotels, taking two jetliners + security on taxpayer dime, without POTUS?

It is probably to prevent bribery. The SS protects the president but works for the government.

Biden charged them for space for a little building on his property.

This has been pretty common for decades.

The Atlantic should investigate how much Biden charged them, but also why he phallus flashed the female Secret Service but, only when his wife wasn’t home.
