I got 54 mpg freeway driving to sta. Barbara from l.a. using manual transmission 2009 Chevy cobalt XFE. Avg. 60 miles per hour....did a bit of coasting..but not more than 5 minutes total....more like 3 minutes total. U.S. had developed a hybrid Dodge Intrepid back in early 1990’s which was rated about 70 mpg. Done to demonstrate gas savings. Price of gas went down after that.
Briggs and Stratton had developed a hybrid back in 1970s...yup..that Briggs and Stratton. Prius is for “know little” but environmentally concerned motorist....Not bad product...but much more can be done.

Correction...Briggs and Stratton presented their version in 1980...developed in 70’s.....to be a bit more accurate...from what I read there was a hybrid in 1917 or so.
